Okay, well, here it is.
No, it's not the trailer we've been talking about.
When we set out to make something, we thought for a very long time on what to do. At the end, where we are now, we realized just how much we poured our heart and soul into this- "The Brocial Network"- and realized......it's just much bigger to us than a submission to a contest. You can obviously tell where this is going from here, but I'm going to explain further anyway.
You see, from the very beginning of the contest- the ANNOUNCEMENT of it, even- we knew the idea had to come first and be really strong in order to make it all worthwhile- and like any good sequel of a better-than-average franchise, we knew that it was UNLUCKY of us from the get-go to have just made our popular Inception parody/internet hit "Inebriation". Because that just meant/means we'd have to top it
So after a long while of thinking and discussing and looking at the resources we had, we went at it. And we've been ecstatic with the results we've produced. Working with two of our great friends and constant collaborators who now live out-of-town, we still made it work.
We've shot mostly between the hours of midnight and 5am on different days- shooting creatively often to get the two actors in the same scene when neither of them are there at the same time. But we made it work
. We took chances, and they paid off.
Additionally we've been working more than we ever have within the nit-pickyness of a college campus, and working out the use of a plethora of other venues and actors- it's been crazy that we've found such success. That we've got nearly to the finish line so quickly.
But alas, we're not quite there. With most all of the shots in the can, with several fantastic actors, a great premise, and closely-matched locations to boot, we couldn't release something haphazardly for the sake of entering the contest. It just didn't set right with us thinking about it.
turn it in, yes. It is completed, shot, and edited beyond a point that we might in some circumstances consider enough. We could stop and render now, and you probably would wonder what else we have to get. And, in all honesty, we still think we'd have a decently reasonable (probably good
, actually) chance of winning this contest.
But for that 95% shot, there's still that golden 5%- that extra mile- that we really want to go for. And it isn't worth it to us to show off the trailer without that 5% just for the contest's sake, only to pull it and put up the 'real' version later. Because that's just so damn petty and silly, and while we absolutely are thrilled and care about the contest- we care more
about not hastily doing things. Not half-assing our way into this thing.
And so, we're stepping back from our mad-dash efforts, and finishing this sucker the right way. We started to have an argument about it, but the consensus very quickly
all went the same direction: Do it right.
With an all-original parody musical track sung by Chase Arrington, the most ambitious setups we've yet attempted (and not just on parody work), and with some of the highest and most-succinct production values we've ever pushed- "The Brocial Network" just feels like The Godfather II that we want to follow our first Godfather with.
But, like we said: you can't follow-up The Godfather with The Godfather III. It's still a great movie, but nowhere comparable. That's where our trailer is right now, and we want more- because that's not good enough for us. For our audience. Or for you guys.
No, for this you need a Godfather II- and we believe "The Brocial Network", in it's finalized form, will be exactly that. So apologies on us not quite making the contest, but know we've tried. We've given it our all, and got much more out than a kitsch, lackluster follow-up to a one-trick-pony: We've got something were greatly proud of, and wanna make the absolute best.
We'll see you again when we get to that point. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask us. It's been the busiest month we've ever had for our filmmaking, for our video business, and for our artistic prospects- and we're really happy and excited to share more of that with you guys soon.
For as loud as I love to be, my required silence has been killing me! Hopefully "The Brocial Network" will tie both of us over until at least the end
of 2010- when we can maybe begin to talk up more of what we're doing nowadays!
