I am done with a Light Saber Test video using effectslab pro. I just bought it today. Every time after I "save as" for my movie project I want to import it into windows movie maker. But instead every time I try to this comes up

cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

Can some one please explain to me what this means and how can I fix it. Thanks very much.

It sounds like perhaps you haven't rendered the movie yet, and are trying to import the EffectsLab project file into Movie Maker? I can't tell for certain from your description, but if this is the case, then that is the problem right there.

You have to render to create a movie file that other programs can use.

If you have in fact rendered, then make sure that you have selected .avi as the render format (in the render settings, in the render menu). If the format is set to .mov, then it won't work with WMM, and you could get the error message you describe.

How do I do that?

You need to provide us with some more specific information, please, so we can understand what exactly you are trying. Then we can suggest what to change.

Have you rendered? What format did you render to? After you select render, what codec are you selecting in the Compression Settings window? Do you have the latest versions of Quicktime and DirectX installed on your machine?

If you can walk us through each step of the process you are currently using, then we can hopefully find the issue.

I did this

Render Settings

output type file:
Single File

output container:
DirectShow (.avi)

Then I clicked okay. Got the same thing I had before each time.
