I am trying to use backgrounds from my computer and for some reason the sizing is incorrect - each time i add it, it goes behind my picture and is very small. Can you please tell me what I need to do to use backgrounds i already have stored on my computer.

There's nothing special you have to do, just import them into the Background panel of the Import toolset as you would any other. The size will be controlled by the Position toolset, as always, so check there to see if you still have the size turned down from adjusting a previous image.

Going behind your picture shouldn't be a problem, since it is a background.

Of course, if you don't want to have to resize them, all you have to do is use background images that are closer in resolution to your foreground images.

Or you can set the canvas to be the size of your background, that way you only need to make the foreground smaller
