Downloading a Preset Effect to a Mac

I am trying to download a preset effect from the Fx website for use in a movie. I have clicked download and the effect has been downloaded to the download folder on my Mac. But when I double click on it, I get a message saying that the file can't be opened because there is no application that can open it.
I have tried dragging and dropping to the pre-installed presets in my program, which does not work.
I assume that I need to drag the effect into a file with the effects program. Can someone explain the process?

You assume incorrectly.
Once you have downloaded the .FXpreset_pack file you want to install, from within EffectsLab select the "Import FXpreset..." option from the file menu, and navigate to the preset file you want to install. More detailed info here:Knowledgebase'd!!!
Alternately, here's the info in video form
, from the FAQ in this very forum.

You should take a look at the links I provided in my last post. All preset files should be in the .FXpreset_pack format, which is a zipped format. If your presets do not have the full .FXpreset_pack suffix, something is going wrong.

Are you running the demo? You have no software registered.
which leads to my next question, how are you downloading presets without any software registered? Are you downloading them from somewhere other than fxhome.com?

The effects should be in a .zip file when downloaded. Double-click the file and a folder (or just one file named .FXpreset) will come. When in the interface of the program, go to File > Import FXpreset pack...
Then go to the folder and highlight all of the presets (or just the one preset). Import.
It should appear in one of the menus.

You can't install presets into the demo. You need the full version.
