HELPPP i have masked my footage but when i add an effect it turns black i want the effect to go behind an object i have followed the video tutorial but i still cant do it :{

A mask removes a portion of the layer you add it to. So if you want your effect to appear to be behind the footage, you need to remove a portion of the effect, correct? So you need to add a mask to the effect layer, not to the footage. This knowledgebase article explains in a bit more detail, with illustrations.
