Ok, so you know how the raw particles (before you add textures) come out in a triangle? Well, that's kinda ruining my Death Eater effect. Is there any way to make it come out in more of a column shape? (or whatever shape it looks like to you in the movies)

Yep, there is a way. It involves changing the Angle range to a smaller number (since you want the particles to come out more directly, and not at so much of an angle. It might also require changing to a rectangular emitter, if you can't get a wide enough stream from a point.

You might find some useful info in This knowledgebase tutorial which discusses every aspect of the particle engine. Also, this video tutorial might help with learning the basics of working with particles. In addition, the Particle Attributes section of the manual provides an explanation of each control in the particle attributes for quick reference.
