Mask effect in PhotoKey?

Since nothing is there, am I to assume that I have to make/import png masks from another program such as Photoshop?

Nope, you create the masks within Photokey. Since most masking requires unique shapes though, depending on what needs masked in the image, you draw each mask to whatever shape you require.

This video explains how the masks work.
