When I create a new project with a blank timeline there's this popup window that asks me for my preferred project settings, and also offers me some templates. Because I want to edit several shots with custom settings, I'd like to know if there's a way to create a custom template and save it so I can select and reuse it from the dropdown list for later projects?

I don't think you can create new presets for that list. However, I think the preferences retain your original settings as a default, so you might be able to delete the prefs, then launch VisionLab and select the format options you want for the first project, and I think it will remember them, though I'm not certain on that.

Too bad... No, that doesn't work. It remembers it when I choose one of the given templates, but not if I apply custom settings. sad
Is it possible that there is some .ini or .xml Program file or somewhat where these templates are saved?

Hi Hikaru755,

this is funny, I had the same problem a few days ago. I didn't think about it that much at the time but now I checked it out a little closer. Indeed, there is an xml file which contains the templates - and the file can be edited. I didn't do extensive tests so the below contains some guessing but if I'm not mistaken, this should work just fine (however, you might want to make a backup of all files changed before editing any of them):

Open the file application_data.xml within the applications directory. Look for a tag called: project_templates:

<project_templates type="propList">

Below this tag you will find all templates: <pal_d1_dv type="propList">, pal_d1_dv_widescreen, ...

These can be edited. You can even add your own additional templates. If I'm not mistaken the root tag of a new branch can be called whatever you like. (e.g. <my_temp_320 type="propList">)
I guess it might be the easiest way to simply copy and past one of the existing templates and adjust the settings+root-tag-name.

Hope this helps/works wink

cu,
Helge
