When a lens flare is moving behind an object, what is the proper way to animate it for a realistic look? I'm sure that setting a mask isn't the proper solution to represent what really happens when a glare gets hidden. Is it something to do with the scale of the effect?

Well, A mask could fix it, but mabey not...

Try watching videos(or mabey looking at pictures) where this happens.

If it's obstructed on the outer part, a mask should do it, but if it's in the middle, try making the scale slightly smaller.
