So i spent 2 hours making a transformation sequence for a superhero. used a few effects and was amazed by how it looked by the time i was done...however when i went to render i got the message
"failed begin compression sequence"
why does this happen?
what did i do wrong and how can i fix it?

The fact that it mentions compression would indicate that it is related to the codec you are using. what container are you rendering to, .mov or .avi? And what codec did you select when you rendered? Does changing any of these settings affect whether or not the sequence renders?

but what is strange is that to my knowledge i haven't changed anything since the last time i used it and it worked fine.
How can i change setting?

i started digging around and found the apple codec was the problem. i don't know why its broken but it is.
i rendered the damn thing uncompressed for now because i need to get this project out and will tinker with it later to see whats wrong and how to fix it. thank you for the comment that made me change the apple codec.

Oddly enough there is a separate issue now.
When i load in files they load in black.
they play black as well. no video. but when i load them back in there is a chance they will load normally? any idea whats the deal with that?

Are you using iMovie? A recent update broke the codec that iMovie uses and stopped it from working in VisionLab. You'll need to export to a different codec before you can use the clips.

Thank you all very much for all the wonderful advice. after taking it all in and figuring it out i understand what you all were trying to tell me. I'm wondering if i should buy a third party app. just to upload the files to the mac.
