Apple recently broke something in the Intermediate codec, which is the codec iMovie uses for all of its internal behind-the-scenes processing, so native iMovie footage will not display in EffectsLab. So this problem isn't unique to you, it affects all users of iMovie.

The solution is as simple as exporting from iMovie to a different codec, or, better yet, switching to a decent video editor. Of course, not everyone's budget allows them to just pick up a good editor whenever they might want, so Export from iMovie using the Animation codec, and the problem will be gone.

You have to Render the video from EffectsLab to a .mov format video in order to import the finished product into iMovie.

To download presets, you click the "Download" button for the preset that you are after. Once its downloaded, use the command in the file menu of EffectsLab to import the preset.
