This is a little game, if you could be a God what powers would you like to have?

Let me start...

I would be the god of Karma

Bad things happen to bad people, good things happen to the good for example members of the klu klux klan would turn black, the poor would have tremendous luck and get rich. Only the bad die young and the rich and nasty would become bankrupt.

Please do not post up anything to do with Religious beliefs and Faith as it is not what this post is about.

Well, if I was a god, I wouldn't exist and people just made me up. So there's that.

Without religious beliefs and faith, there is no such thing as a god.

Also, I love how your idea of a bad thing happening to a bad person is a ku klux klan member becoming a black man... This thread is forehead slap central.

no i said to keep out religious beliefs and faiths because i know how those threads go and they turn into flame wars, this is merely a game.

The black thing wasn't meant to sound like a bad thing, just bad karma for a klan member, just like rich and nasty people become bankrupt, bloody hell i have put this game onabout 5 different forums and had no problems, its taken only 2 posts on here before its starting to go off

Maybe you should make it "if you were all-powerful" or whatever. Because mentioning "God" just makes it a recipe for argument. Most people (it seems) have an "aaah whatevvvver" attitude: not so here. People on this forum are far more rigid about their views and opinions; that's what sparks the awesome debates that are a trademark of FXhome.

No, only some people here are rigid in their views. Most are merely sensitive. I'm completely open to the idea that I might be wrong. Hell, the concept of thinking rationally about beliefs and admitting to being wrong is half the point of a lot of Atheist rhetoric.

I don't see a problem here, though. This is just an imagination exercise. Sollthar kind of came off as one of those people who want Christmas to be referred to as Holidays, or something razz

*AGHAST* Holidays connotes "holiness"! I much prefer "Winter Enjoyment Time".

If I were a dog, I would be a Cocker Spaniel/Doberman mix.

Oh dear, this thread smile

I'm taking videofx's original post to mean "it's not a discussion of religious beliefs and faiths", which is fair enough.

Since pdrg beat me to it, I'll go with being Thor (He gets Natalie Portman after all). That or a doberman/jack russel mix.

I'm sorry Sollthar but I couldn't help but remind you that the "mas" part comes from a catholic mass, as in a mass about Christ, hence the name Christmas, so you need to eliminate "Christ" and "mas" to get rid of the Christian in the name... sorry.

Ha, this thread brings back many lolz..

This definitely should have been labeled as "If you had any superpower.." because obviously God strikes some of the community wrong. With that said, I don't think that pretending you're God is any more ridiculous than pretending to be a super hero, especially to atheists. If the creator of the thread titled it "If you were a super hero..." I could post first saying "I wouldn't exist, because SUPER HEROES DON'T EXIST". But the point of the thread isn't to prove the existence of super heroes (or God) but to simply pretend. So I have to say that Sollthar's first response seemed a little... pointless? I know that you were partially joking (I thought your Christmas post was entertaining) but I think that the response made the thread controversial as opposed to the original thread.

Anywho, to give a proper response.. I would most definitely want to create world peace (a tad cliche, I know). It would probably mean having to change human nature though.

Okay, to pretend and how I actually honestly imagine it:

If I was a god - an everlasting, all-knowing, all-powerful being I'd do nothing at all.

I know everything there is to know, so there's nothing interesting left in the world for me to find out or think about. I wouldn't talk to anyone because I've had every conversation there is to have and I'd know the answers even before I ask the questions. I wouldn't do anything because I've done it all endless times before and even then it felt empty because nothing was a true challenge. I wouldn't care about anything because I know how it'll all end and have the power to change that ending if I don't like it, which I must have done numerous times before.
So I'd just sit there and wait for eternity to end.

Hm, you could still convert back to a normal non everlasting, non all-knowing and non all-powerful being. Might not be as spectacular as being a god - but at least its not as boring as just sitting there and doing nothing wink

I would disprove scientific theory on television. And I would do it really, really smugly, just popping up and embarrassing the presenters with examples of how everything was down to me. Then at night I would lie in bed and ponder on the concept of infinity, and I would have the nagging sense that I must have come from somewhere. Then in the morning I would get out my clay and pottery wheel, make some living organisms, kick back, then give every girl in the world short hair because I think it's sexy. Then I would round off the day printing fliers for my dinosaur denial campaign.

Or is Mel Gibson.

I would immediately set up opportunities to follow any ambition I might have, then I would remove all my superpowers and force myself to work to fulfill those opportunities.

Heh, a nicely incendiary topic here. smile

I'm not sure whether we're talking about gods with specific powers and domains (Greek gods, for example), or Christian-style all-powerful gods.

Either way, the first thing I'd want to do is imbue my creations with the self-confidence and self-respect to live, explore and invent without needing my continued input or existence. As with any parent, the ultimate achievement is when the child leaves the house and goes out into the world to follow his or her own path - same in this case, just on a grander scale. To do otherwise would be to fail that creation/child.
