key framing presets

i don't seem to be able to key frame attributes such as particle life time ,gravity,and i want to know exactly how to key frame these and other attributes.... i can do scale and emitter on and off but no luck with grade and rotation

Some attributes can't be keyframed and work as global settings.

thanks.... where would a get the detail info on which ones can be key frame

If it can be keyframed, it will be listed on the timeline. If its not listed on the timeline, it can't be keyframes.
