Effectslab doesn't do keying, so I'm not sure that's possible in Effectslab (Visionlab, however has Clab and Elab in one, plus a little extra.)

Use the import command in the File menu to import the footage, then add it to the timeline. There aren't any special tricks required or anything; EffectsLab will remove the black background automatically.

Any time you import video footage or still images, it will be found in the Media tab of the toolbox. It might help to take a few minutes to watch some of the interface tutorials to help you get familiar with the basic layout and functions of the program.
