I see no drying paint. Or bacon in a sandwich. I'm disappointed.

But still, it looks awesome! I suppose. wink

As a Beta tester, I'd confirm that it's much easier to use than previous FXhome products, while somehow being much more powerful. The clean UI is possibly my favourite thing about HitFilm, in fact!

I found the lab products incredibly easy to use, do you lose any editing "power" or control because of how "easy" it is to use?

It's more streamlined, which makes it easier to use all the features without sacrificing any power or control as far as I've noticed. I also find it to be a good deal prettier.

I couldnt wait and bought after effects is there still enough in hitfilm to warrant an after effects user buying it. I still find visionlab easier to use than after effects but the big issue for me was only being able to use avi or quicktime. will it be compatible with most raw camera video footage?

Can't wait to find out more details, this looks like its going to be an amazing product.

Does it includes motion tracking?
Am I right in assuming that Hitfilm will have all the features that are in Visionlab?
And will there be an upgrade option or will it be a completely separate purchase?

If the answers to my first two questions are yes, when can I hand my money over smile

They say it will be able to replace an NLE for some stuff, "streamlining" the workflow so you won't have to render the footage multiple times when you need to do something in a different program. So I assume there will be more codecs available to work with, but these are just assumptions based on the info on their fb page, website, and twitter.

Ah... too bad this wasn't released a tad bit earlier! I'm currently working on a shot-in-3D, vfx-heavy indie sci-fi film... and I would have loved to see what this program could have done for it. As it stands now, I'm using a combination of Visionlab and After Effects, but I'll probably be wrapped on the project before summer. Oh well.

Sounds absolutely fantastic, though. Can't wait to try it out on my own, upcoming projects!

Now... give us some more info. You're still just teasing us. razz

Why now? I just got the new Final Cut Pro and won't have any serious cash for at least four years. ARGH!

But seriously this looks fantastic, gentlemen! Granted, we haven't seen too much as of yet, but the idea sounds great. I wish you all the best of luck in the upcoming weeks/months before the release. If there's anything I can do to help (I'm seriously amazing at programming these days; I can write hangman in Python) my virtual door is always open wink

Maybe you should get Atomic to spread the hype a bit.

If you just got Final Cut Pro, then you're going to be even more upset when you hear that the new version isn't out until next month...

Heh, you got me Aculag! wink

Technically, I got the "old" Final Cut Studio last month (which I needed for a workshop) and I'm upgrading next month to what will hopefully be a "cheaper" (with the upgrade price) Final Cut Pro.

But my point still stands that this is very inconvenient timing for me. smile

The Ultimate version will, yes. They'll be better and faster, though.

And will there be an upgrade option or will it be a completely separate purchase?
HitFilm isn't 'VisionLab 2', it's an entirely new product designed and built from scratch, so there won't be a normal upgrade path. However, we haven't forgotten you guys and we'll have some cool stuff for you closer to release.

DX6channel wrote:

That's probably for you guys to decide rather than us. HitFilm is leagues more powerful than anything we've done before, though, and I think a lot of folks will be quite surprised. smile

Of course, as with all our previous products, the price will compare extremely favourably. wink

I don't think that you can compare the two... After effects is so damned complicated... to me it is, and the Lab products user interface and learning curve are 20 million times more user friendly, in the long run... my money is on the FXhome team and the new Hit Film software, no questions asked. These guys have their heads on straight and they know what they're doing and whom they're doing it for. They're creating something that is affordable, not just for those few that can afford a huge price tag... but to all of us that have a story to tell and are on a little to no budget production. That's why I love this site so much. You have the freedom to let your imagination go wild and create anything that your heart desires. Yeah... I've only been a member on this site for a few short years but I'm as loyal to FXhome as you can get. Anyone that tells you anything different... well... they are a damned liar. Love peace and chicken grease b!tches. biggrin

Very nice! I'm starting to love this! Is that a "Text" window I see!? Haha biggrin

Maybe you should make that screenshot a higher resolution so I can see the effects that are being listed in that tab?

I just zoomed in a ton! What is "stylize"? If that is what I'm reading. Very nice. Under presets, the "3D" folder is very intriguing!

For all those who want it to have "motion tracking" check out the dots on the green screen in the interface picture, that's kinda interesting, wouldn't you say?

Is the idea of HitFilm to replace the video editors we have? My wife only just brought me Vegas as a present for our first wedding anniversary. Or is it designed to do basic editing so video doesn't have to be rendered so many times?

For many people HitFilm will be all the editor they ever need as its more powerful than something like Windows Movie Maker. Having said that, if you're a power user, then it won't compare to a fully fledged editor like Vegas.

When it comes to editing HitFilm will be solid (and increasingly so over time) but when it comes to compositing and effects HitFilm will be extraordinary! smile

Yeah, if you already have something like Vegas or Premiere and love using it, HitFilm will slot into that workflow just fine. You're not 'forced' into using HitFilm's editing capabilities.

The benefit of the editor side of HitFilm in that case is that you can use it to make minor editing adjustments without having to go back and forth loads, retaining Vegas as your primary editor.

From the screenshot it seems very similar to AE. How will it compare & will it have actual 3D tracking. As I'm a student I was thinking of buying their whole Production Premium for about £350 which I thought was very reasonable as I could do professional DVD design at the same time, as well as the other benefits that solution comes with. How will HitFilm compare to AE and/or FCE which I use now.

Adobe don't do 3D tracking themselves... You have to use a 3rd party product (of which there are many at different price levels) and then import that data in to After Effects. That is a pretty standard way to do things when it comes to 3D compositing...

HitFilm is also a 3D compositor, but unlike After Effects our 3D effects are actually 3D rather than rendered on to a 2D plane then composited. smile

More information to come?

Looks very exciting. Will it be useful for 2D animation? If a character was rendered separately with alpha, for instance, could this software detect the edges and add lighting effects to the character?

The product has a nice simple UI, although I haven't been able to work through some of the more funky functionality yet. At the moment, it seems like a perfect partway house between the freebie NLE's like WMM and a dedicated NLE - great for people wanting more power, video/audio tracks, etc., plus all the glory of a powerful builtin effects engine...

What do you mean by 3D images, SaiTurtlesNinjaNX? You can create effects in 3 dimensional space. Rendered images are (as always) 2D. If that doesn't answer your question, can you provide more details to explain what you mean?

No. What I mean is. Can you make 3D models or just import them? Like the star ship Enterprise.

I'm really stoked that someone said that HitFilm has a 3D particle engine. I wonder... if it has all of the other effects engines that Visionlab has... will they also be in 3D? biggrin If so... imagine all of the things that I'll be able to do. DROOL. eek

Thanks Axeman for answering my question. I do hope it can at least import 3D models.

For the record I was planning on buying VisionLab untell this came up.

I bit you can do the Star Trek 2009 transporter effects with the 3D particle engine that HitFilm has.

There's no importing of 3D models. We'll be explaining exactly what the 3D compositing is all about in a video pretty soon!

Indeed, I've been meaning to try that effect. wink If you shot your actor on a green screen (or just masked him out) you'd be able to have the transporter particles genuinely move around him in a true, 3D, circular motion. No faffing about with layers, or fiddly masking - it just works.

Apologies for the double-post, but I thought you guys might like to see the new HitFilm.com community front page.

This has big implications for FXhome.com, of course, and we'll be going into more detail on that soon. If you're worried about change, the key things to know for now are:

- The new community is for you guys. Together you all create the best community on the internet. We want to give you something even cooler.

- With a fresh start we've been able to use properly modern community tools. That means your general experience of browsing the community will be vastly improved.

- HitFilm.com is created and run by the same loveable rogues that have been running FXhome.com for the last decade. It'll still be Tarn, schwar and malone you'll be bumping into on the forums. No change there. wink

If "HitFilm" is a product made by the company, FxHome why the need for a new website? If I may ask. Why not expand the FxHome website to make it fit?

(But I do really like the look of the site!)

It's a good question.

FXhome has to do quite a few things these days, juggling being a web store and a community. On top of that it's host to both our video software and the increasingly successful PhotoKey software. With PhotoKey finding success in a very different market (not just photo vs video, but indie vs business) it's a bit of a balancing act.

On top of this, the community aspects of FXhome are built on old architecture which is difficult to adapt and update. We've got a big list of ambitious ideas and features which would have been difficult or impossible to fit into FXhome.com.

The HitFilm software is such a massive step up for us that it needs this kind of presentation, and you guys in the community have been so amazing to us over the years that you deserve some cool new developments on the web side.

...which is what led us to HitFilm.com, where we're able to focus 100% on filmmakers. No confusion with additional products, no compromises.

It's an approach we'll continue to take with any other major products we release down the line, so that they can each have a strong, undiluted presence.

Ah that makes sense. Will you still sell HitFilm from Fxhome.com? Will FxForce come back? wink

We won't be selling HitFilm from FXhome - it will only be sold from HitFilm.com and quite probably other stores.

So is FXHome.com still going to have a web presence, or is it just for the 'lab products. Just thinking that nothing else is called FXhome where there will be a lot of things called Hit Film. I expect there is a way round this, just don't want the company to be hard to find after all that the company has managed to achieve.

HitFilm will be very easy to find - I would imagine within a couple of month it be even easier for new people to find that FXhome.

Having said that our company name is FXhome and FXhome.com will remain our company website. We will continue to sell the PhotoKey products, point video users in the direction of HitFilm and support our older products.

FXhome is going nowhere, but HitFilm will be a far better place for filmmakers to hang out! biggrin

So, if the community focus is going to be on HitFilm.com, is it basically just sort of transferring this community over to another, more functional and better site?

Essentially, yes. smile

There'll be lots more opportunities for people to establish themselves. Better features for doing production diaries, better opportunities to have a recognisable presence and push your videos. The way people use the FXhome forums these days is quite different to how they did 8 years ago, and that's something we've embraced on HitFilm.com.

It's also going to be a more evolving website. I'm sure you've all noticed that FXhome.com hasn't really changed much for quite a while in terms of features - that won't be the case with HitFilm.com.

So as I understand it the Lab products will be obsolete? So HitFilm will have everything they had as far as capabilities go? I hope?

This is an interesting and exciting new way to go. I'm a tad hesitant about it but I think once everyone gets used to it, it'll work out nicely. Will the new forums use the same BB code? If not what will it use? I need to start practicing so I understand it wink

FYI I just checked out Corridor Digital's trailer for Prism which apparently they used HitFilm on, and it made me 100x more EXCITED for this product!

OK I get it, this sounds really exciting. I think that a community experience that is more tailored to film making and film makers, whatever that may be, sounds great.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Hopefully my computer will be able to rise to the challenge of continuing to be able to access the web, and not fail me when it comes to the new site as it did when it came to the beta testing.biggrin

Hey, i got a good one.

How did you guy's come up with the name ?

It's a little 'Different' compared to the existing naming style you have used in the lab line up.

No offense meant by the way but im sure a few have pondered this so why dont you tell us how you finally settled on:-

HitFilm

Obviously because it will be so much easier to make hit films for one who employs the use of the new software... wink

Brilliant name, FXhome. wink Well played.

Thanks guys! None of us were entirely certain how the website shift would be received by veteran FXhomers, as it is a big change in some ways. It's good to see a lot of you already 'getting' it. smile

Something I'd like to say is that all of you guys are absolutely integral to what we're trying to do. As has been said many times, you are the community. A community doesn't exist without its members. The new HitFilm.com community is because we want to give you something better.

We've always put a lot of effort into setting the tone and making sure FXhome is a place where anybody and everybody can feel welcome, but it's all of you that then run with that concept and turn it into This Place. With HitFilm.com we want to take every single one of you with us, because nobody knows better how to form a kick ass, friendly community than all of you chappies. The name might be changing, but the core of what makes this place what it is will remain.

As always...more info to come. wink

So... how will this new "community" be implemented? Will all the existing members' "forum data", "cinema movies", and other account data simply be ported over to the new site?

Now that visual effects products are not the sole priority, is there a chance of returning to CBS Digital as the company name?

I think the real question on everyone's mind is...

Who's the Photokey girl because she's hot. wink

So what goes on as far as awards and such? Will there be a "HitFilm Awards"??? Will there be an online, instant chat?

Just for those who are interested...

FXhome.com isn't going anywhere, and will remain the place to go for support on VisionLab, EffectsLab and CompositeLab. We'll also continue to sell all our photo goods (PhotoKey etc) from FXhome.com.

HitFilm is an entirely new product and website - a thoroughly reworked proposition just for filmmakers.

There won't be an automated transfer of data over to the new website for several reasons...

1) A lot of posts on FXhome.com are not really going be relevant to current and new filmmakers.
2) Content regarding the Lab products or PhotoKey would confuse new people who will join HitFilm.com.
3) We want to make sure all the users on HitFilm.com are people who want to be there participating in that new community. With over 10 years of users FXhome has quite a few inactive accounts.
4) The HitFilm.com profiles will be a lot more flexible and powerful (more on this to come!), so a 1:1 port of data wouldn't translate properly.

COOL! So for one, brief shining moment -- maybe the first 10 minutes that the website goes live and is public -- a guy like me will have equal status with the likes of the Atomic brothers, and even PDRG.

It won't last, but at least I'll have that brief moment.
