Pricing for the new video product from FXhome has been revealed!

HitFilm Standard will be $149 (€120, £105) and HitFilm Ultimate will be $399 (€325, £285).

Don't forget, both versions of HitFilm give you all this:

Nothing else offers those features at anywhere near HitFilm's prices.

HitFilm Ultimate gives you even more:

  • Huge number of exclusive effects (more details to come)

  • Cutting edge 3D particle simulator

  • Up to 4K resolution

  • 16-bit floating point color

We'll be talking more about the differences between the products in the coming weeks.

Lol how do you guys do this? I was expecting at least 600 for Ultimate. You guys really weren't lying when you said this was for indie filmmakers. How can something better than Visionlab be cheaper then Visionlab? I...I don't understand.

Thanks RodyPolis! smile

The only way we can make the software so cheap is if we sell a lot of it - of course this will also make a great new community for us all to enjoy.

The team here at FXhome are doing their absolute best to make HitFilm a cutting edge piece of software which is the equal (if not better) than anything else on the market at any price.

I'm excited every day when I get to play with HitFilm because of its great power and ease of use. What excites me the most is that HitFilm is an amazing platform which will allow us to continue to deliver high end tools for Indie filmmakers for years to come!

The product is going to be great, but we can't make it the massive success we all want it to be without your help spreading the word in the weeks to come. You guys, our loyal FXhomers, are hugely important to us so there will be news about something special just for you when the product is released. smile

Holy Vulcan $hit!!! eek Are you serious about this price!? eek
This is waaay, to good to be true but, whatever. wink
It at least gives me something to shoot for now that we know the price. This is going to be my early birthday/christmas present to myself. biggrin

p.s.
Two quick questions for you Tarn.
As far as the importing of 3D camera tracking data... are the import scripts going to be bundled with HitFilm or do we have to...
Say, I use the Voodoo Camera Tracker, do I have to go to the Voodoo homepage and download it there?

I know that I keep saying this in almost every single post concerning a HitFilm thread but... I am sooo stoked right now. biggrin

One thing to consider (you guys should already know this) is that user videos are a great way to get interested customers to buy a product. Every time I'm interested in a product, the first thing I do is go on Youtube and type in that product to see what its users are making (did that with Pfhoe for example).

I recently did that with the Lab products, and while the Lab products are pretty good (I would know), most videos on Youtube showcasing the Lab products didn't do them justice... at all. It's like these guys weren't even trying to make something real.

If I didn't already know about you guys, there's no way I would have bought your software because these user videos would already turn me off. There's just too much of "kids with guns having fun" and not enough of serious indie filmmakers using the products for serious projects. With the prices of Hitfilm, 'kids with guns' are guarantied to start flooding Youtube. While this is great because you guys sell, most of these KWG videos are crap FX-wise which would hurt the products integrity.

So just something I've notice in the past few days browsing on Youtube. Great user Tutorials are also something to keep in mind also.

Fair point. We encourage all users to post videos showing how they've used our software, regardless of skill level. That will continue with HitFilm I'm sure. On the subject of more serious filmmakers though..

Yeah, it's a good point, Rody. However, we wouldn't want to artificially inflate our prices simply to ensure that all of our users are semi-pro or above, even if it might make the product seem 'cooler' in some people's eyes.

I actually think the situation will be very different with HitFilm, though. It's so much easier and faster to create high quality results that even the KWGs will have a chance to get better results. But HitFilm will also attract an even higher calibre of filmmaker like yourself, who produce excellent results.

We'll always have a wide range of material created in the software, but the same is true for AE. What we need are the standout users that create stunning results - and I'm pretty sure we'll get them. I can think of FXhomers that will be able to craft amazing stuff with HitFilm, let alone all the new people that will arrive.

First off I'd like to say, I didn't think I'd be able to afford this software... but all things considered, I'm buying this the moment you guys put it out there! (If my junk 9 year old computer can handle it that is wink ) otherwise I'll just wait till I'll have a new computer smile

This is incredible, honestly didn't think you'd be able to get such a cheap price on this, especially since it took you SOOOO long. Very nice job guys, I'm very excited.

I think Rody is right about a lot of that. I too look up products on youtube to see what the users do with them, and it is a shame how poorly the lab products are used...

Oh and when HitFilm.com goes online, what will we be called? HitFilmers?

HitFilm Standard is the same price as CompositeLab Pro and EffectsLab Pro

HitFilm Ultimate is about $400 or more like $450 if you add all the taxs and shipping.

But WOW that 100 to 200 dollals cheaper the I was thinking.

I'm so getting HitFilm Ultimate.

If you just buy the download version in America there will be no taxes as we're a UK company - $399 would be all you would pay. Saying that, the boxes will be pretty. smile

Hmm, I can understand how some of you guys would be put off by how the Lab products have been used on Youtube.
The thing you should try to understand is... and I say this a lot... you're sorta judging the software by what other people do with it and not by what it's capable of doing. If you limit the software and by that I mean, limiting yourself as well, by what others do with it... you're never going to see the full potential of both yourself and the software... make sense? There are a bunch of people on this site with some rather great imaginations and... to me... that's what helps you create things that you wouldn't have thought of before or been able to accomplish had you not limited yourself in the first place.

You could give a not very creative guy who limits himself for the previously stated reasons, a visual effects a program like After Effects and he'd probably produce something, not so great.
If you give a guy with some creativity a less costly program like Visionlab... it's a sure bet that, that guy will figure out a way to create something awesome.

There's always all of these software type of debates such as Photoshop vs Gimp, Visionlab vs After Effects, Voodoo vs Syntheyes and all of the other matchmoving software, Blender vs any other 3D app that you can think of. As I already stated... it's not the software... it's the person that you put that software in front of that matters because they'll come up with some great things.

Give me Voodoo, all be it very limited, Gimp, Blender, Visionlab and hopefully soon... HitFilm. biggrin There is no limit to what we'll be able to do with this software.

Don't leave your imagination stuck in neutral... put that sucker in high gear and punch it dude.

Wow, and here I was thinking there was no chance of me affording this at launch. It may just be within my budget now biggrin. I'm still puzzled, although not complaining, at how you can release it at this price when vlab is more expensive... just Wow... game over man.

You just have to do a comp at launch, whoever can come up with the best short, edited and had 3d work done on it using the newly purchased hitfilm. Winner gets their money back cool

Oh and before I forget, the clip from coridor digital, the shots with the actors frozen in place as the camera moves around them, they would have been standing there as still as possible, right? And all the muzzle flare, blood hits etc were tracked and positioned in after effects, all of which will be possible in hitfilm?

Corridor Digital used several different techniques to create the Frozen Crossing Alpha video (http://youtu.be/A13kHkWNJi0).

I was lucky enough to meet up with Sam and Niko in LA earlier in the year and I just had to ask them how they made this video. Given that they are ridiculously modest about their skills they made it sound almost easy - I want to have a go myself.

1) As you say, everyone (other than those who were composited) was standing REALLY still. If you watch the video about 100 times (like I have) there are a couple of places you can see some slight movement, but what they achieved is utterly remarkable.

2) To help the movement, especially where they fast forward, they shot the whole thing on steadicam.

3) They shot the whole thing on a Sony EX1 which gave them the option to film at 720p at 60 frames per second. This gave them the ability to slow down the footage by 50% with no perceptible frame rate penalty.

They then created 3D camera tracking data for the shots (not sure which product they used). This data was imported in to After Effects so they could add in all the composited elements. This is indeed where you could use HitFilm instead! In fact and you would actually be better off in many ways as our particles and muzzle flashes are actually 3D (unlike in AE). smile

Wouldn't it be great if we could convince Corridor to make some masterclasses/tutorials for you guys on how to do stuff like this using HitFilm. wink

wow -- i too am blown away by the announced prices.. (in a good way).. after reading for a week about how improved a product it is over VisionLab, i thought surely the price would be upwards of $500-$800 or so.. thank you FXHome for thinking of "the little guy" in coming up with this price structure..

One question please.. i thought i read in a previous post that there might be "something special" for those already using VisionLab.. Is that still going to be the case..? Or is the low entry price point meant to get more people in at the start..?

There's no such thing as 'too much good news', is there?

Every update is even more astounding from the last one- it's incredibly exciting- think i might need an oxygen mask soon!
Loved the smoke test- looked amazing- i noticed that the smoke started to gradually disperse the further it was from it's source- does this occur automatically depending on the density of the particles or can you also change that as well?

Can't wait to hear more guys!

Wow I am surprised by the price, and I am looking forward to it.
3D compositing is becoming so important in making a more beliveable FX scene.

In the UK summer is usually about 3 days long, and occurs when you least expect it.

Good work Mike Q! I feel that the FXhome community doesn't make enough "That's what she said!" jokes. I really hope we can change that on the HitFilm website. wink
You can never have two many "that's what she said" jokes. Too many Carry on films as I child I suppose, just bought the box set, all 29 films for forty quid. My girlfriend loves the double entendre, so I gave her one. biggrin
Anyhoo, can't wait for hitfilm to come out, any news on deals for existing fxhome members/product owners.

As with everyone else, am stunned by the price. I think I’ll be getting this on the day its released, will probably get pfhoe as well as it seems the best price for what it does.

The tests footage so far looks really impressive, but I'd love to see the smoke test done again but tracked in to some handheld camera footage, what are the chances we'll get to see some test shots like this soon?

Sorry to be the one to ask... BUT... Is this the price for existing customers with FXHome products? Namely the Effects and compositing kits.

I seem to remember a different price point being mentioned for existing customers when first quizzed on pricing.

I understand my FX products will be of no use any more, as Hit Film includes it all? Then, I hope you will not forget loyal users, as said.

Hey guys,

Will there be a download and physical media option avaiable. Say and extra £10 of a physical box as well as download or something like that. For those of use that want the physical media but don't want to wait for the post to have the software. Something similar to what microsoft does with service packs and the like?

thanks

SuperUser

You mean something similar to what FXhome does with every software title they currently offer?

Well, they will still be usable, it's just that Hitfilm is the new version which combines, say, Vision Lab and Vegas, but adds a whole bunch of options! I'm sure the guys here will continue to support the Lab products, and Photokey and such will surely still be sold. wink
