I don't think this has been already mentioned but a really useful feature would be an option to allow HitFilm to shut down itself and the PC once it has finished rendering. That way HitFilm could be left to render over night and shut it self down when it is done.

Another question, will there only be two options available Stardard and Ultimate, or will there be other packages where there will be stock footage included or a green screen?

HitFilm itself will only have two forms: Standard and Ultimate. We may well do additional bundles down the line, like we've done with the Lab software. Bundles like that would, of course, have a higher price tag.

This discount deal far surpasses anything that I expected, especially for all that you've put into this software over the years and it's already extremely low cost. Kudos to the development team for all their hard work. Now all that's left is for it to be released and see what people start coming up with. biggrin

Exciting.

So when can we start expecting promo videos for Hitfilm? I'm guessing it won't be coming out July 1st cause we should have been seeing cool promo videos by now.

You might want to visit http://launch.hitfilm.com Rodypolis, they have been releasing videos for several weeks now. You can find them all at the hitfilm site.

Lol I've seen these. I'm talking about stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vw7t-lOhjI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXjN3FEjdNk

Pretty much the awesome promos that'll show bunch of cool stuff the program can do. You guys have them for everyone of your products, so I'm sure you'll have stuff like this for Hitfilm right? This is your biggest product so I was expecting even bigger promos.

Wow.. all i can say is -- wow.. when it wasn't mentioned at first what the "something special for existing customers" would be.. i started to think perhaps it would be some extra content, or an "available to you first" type of thing..

but 40% off?!?!!? thank you FXHome for truly remembering your existing customers -- you guys rock..! Other companies take notice and learn a thing about building brand loyalty..
-Mike

PS - is the demo and "real" product going to launch at the same time, or is the demo coming first..? although i guess with 40% off it probably doesn't matter - my mind is already made up smile

Rodypolis, its also on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA6GH-0pE6o Link for first video Watched everyone, so much of what indie film makers would find useful in fx, compositing, matchmovING and comes with an NLE abd sound.

Again, that's not the kind of promo video I was talking about. I've seen these videos at least 5 times each. I'm talking about cool promo videos you would see on the front page or the new website that's showing clips of the program being used.

I wanna see more (and better) effects shots from Fxhome. The stuff they've done so far has been good, but they've all been rushed. I would assume in an actual Hitfilm promo video they would actually spend time on them, so that's why I wanna see them.

A good point Rody. There's a very cool promotional video coming later this week on which considerable effort has been expended. smile

We'll be continuing to push out content after release, as well, so there's lots more yet to come. smile

For those that need the prices in £ here are the figures:

£285.00 - 40% = £171.00

£285.00 - 20% = £228.00

I work this out differently...

$399 = £250
(Exchange rate: 0.626600)
(Rate valid as of: 28/6/2011)

£250 - 40% = £150

As Junuc Kleen wrote, and we have already stated on the launch blog, the UK price of HitFilm Ulitmate is £285 which includes VAT as we are a UK company. The 40% off price to UK customers is therefore £171 exactly.

Hey Guy's,
Just downloaded the lastest update for Syntheyes (build 1006)

So far, there's no Exporter for Hitfilm, which i did'nt really expect at this time anyway.

Are you guy's gonna make sure their exporter will be available the day you release the Beta for us to play with this feature ????

Not forgetting exporters for the other matchmovers of course smile

Couple of quick questions so i know how much i need to sell on ebay!

a) Will the vouchers be useable with the Standard edition too and at the same rates?

b) Do you have any details of what the upgrade from Standard to ultimate will be

Thank you

Nope, Standard is too cheap as it stands at $149. wink

The vouchers are only for the much more powerful HitFilm Ultimate.

Well, this is great for all you guys who have had their use of VideoLab Studio, but as someone who bought a copy from Tubetape in June, it's to say the least a bit of a bummer to now find out from this site that I've bought an obsolete product. I've read through quite a few posts on this forum and it seems quite clear that VideoLab Studio had reached the end of its development, and the new software can deal with multi-core cpus, HD etc better than the previous incarnation.

And today I was sent an offer for the new software at the same price as I bought VideoStudio Lab in June!

Unfortunately customer support basically told me to get stuffed when I suggested that they might consider selling software that they no longer intended to sell a few weeks later just might be grounds for a switch, given the price is equivalent.

Is this really fair dealing?

I'm sorry to hear that, travelsignposts. We don't have any direct control over how other stores and resellers choose to market the products they sell.

Here on FXhome we started teasing HitFilm back in March, and announced it officially on May 16th. There were prominent 'coming soon' banners in relevant locations on FXhome.com so that anybody considering a purchase of the Lab products would know about the forthcoming release. We also launched a dedicated blog at launch.hitfilm.com with daily updates about the software's progress up to it July 1st release. It was also heavily promoted via our Facebook, YouTube and Twitter channels.

Even though HitFilm isn't 'VisionLab 2', looking after our users is really important to us, so all users of previous FXhome video software are eligible for a big 40% discount off the price of HitFilm Ultimate.

Being fair to our customers is a top priority and we did do as much as we could to make sure the information was readily available. As mentioned, though, we only have control over our own channels, we don't have control over other retailers.

I would recommend contacting your retailer regarding any issues you have with their marketing.

Fair enough on your own actions, but I really don't think you can absolve yourself from all responsibility for the actions of your resellers. After all, you still reap the benefits of their sales - or have you got a ClickBank-like set-up where you actually sell them the product and they sell it on?

Tubetape, the retailer in question, are scarcely a small unknown operation, and I presume the product was delivered via your servers, in which case you would be aware of any such sale. To continue selling the outdated software at such a short time from its discontinuance and the new launch without providing a replacement or at least very much more substantial offer than you currently have - the 40% is in fact LESS than the discount offered by Tubetape today on your new product bought outright - is frankly unheard of, and I've been buying software for a couple of decades.

FXHome seems a regular sort of business, as evidenced by your rapid response, but on this occasion I think your standards have strayed.

I have contacted Tubetape and will pursue this matter as you suggest, but given their very close connection with your company, I really think that pushing it all onto them is a little ingenuous. Maybe a little proactivity would be better, but YMMV.

Incidentally, as far as distribution is concerned, I note that all electronic distribution is actually dealt with by your company, viz.

ESD (Electronic Software Distribution) of FXhome products is handled directly by FXhome Limited. If you would like to sell FXhome products as a download please contact us:

Hey travelsignposts,

What you have posted is the contact details for resellers who wish the buy ESD products from us to resell to their customers. We sell both physical and download products to resellers all over the world.

VisionLab was sold until it went out of production just like any other product. We ourselves were still selling VisionLab at the time you purchased from TubeTape. When we've updated our products with a new version (like our PhotoKey line) there have been occasions where we're provided recent purchasers of the previous version with a complimentary upgrade. Unlike PhotoKey there is no new version of VisionLab - HitFilm IS NOT VisionLab 2 or anything like it.

VisionLab continues to be a great 2D compositor which we will support on this website for then next 23 months. smile

Hello FXHome,

So as I asked above, your business model is based on the sale of licences to resellers rather than the payment of commissions. That is helpful to your case. But I still think - and I think a perusal of your forum and communications indicate - that to maintain Hitfilm is not a replacement product for VisionLab Studio is ingenuous at best, disingenuous at worst. Better, yes, but also in effect a replacement. Otherwise why withdraw it from the market?

However, leaving this all aside, I have happy news:), in that Tubetape instantly responded to my email as follows:

"Hello Tony,
We are sorry for the inconvenience of this situation. Due to misinformation from the manufacturer we continued to sell the FXHome Lab software. What we will do is offer an exchange of products; an exchange of the VisionLab Studio for the HitFilm Ultimate + 2500 Sound FX. Please inform us if this is satisfactory.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
TubeTape Sales Department."

My answer:
"Thank you for your rapid and customer-sensitive response and offer, which I am happy to accept. I have also pursued this with FXHome but they accepted no responsibility. Your response is what I expect from a reputable retailer who is protective of their good reputation, and I shall post on the FXHome forum to this effect where the discussion has been taking place. Credit were credit is due."

I'm sure most forum members here are aware of this company and their Thursday specials. But just from a PR point of view, this swift response is worth its weight in gold. The company had no idea that I have an online presence and lists, but have scored favourable publicity by their prompt action. It's an object lesson in reputation management.

Please take this exchange as well-meant, even though we disagree. In any event, given the marginal cost involved, I think it's possible to draw useful conclusions from the process.

Best wishes,

Tony Page

Thank you for letting us know Tony.

Given that TubeTape were informed of the release of HitFilm well before May 16th I can only assume the sales agent you spoke to was actually the person who was misinformed. TubeTape were certainly fully aware of our release plans.

Having said that, we too were selling VisionLab up until the release of HitFilm because we don't consider them to be of the same product family. We did ensure that the FXhome website was plastered with HitFilm information so that customers would be able to make an informed decision.

I'm glad everything is now sorted and we look forward to welcoming you over at HitFilm.com where we have lots of great content and discussion. smile

I'm not quite sure what Tony's point is here? All companies sell a product until it is replaced by a newer version. You think when Adobe were planning to bring out CS5 they thought "hey we'd best stop selling CS4 and make no money for the next 6 months in case someone gets pissed when they find out we made a new version".

Software, as with any product, is something that you buy to fulfil a need. Vision Lab doesn't cease to be a great piece of software just because something newer came out. If you checked the specs and Vision Lab met your needs when you purchased it then it will still meet your needs now.

And it is true that FX Home have been very upfront about the impending release of the new program. I'm guessing Tony is new to the FX Hoem fold but I'm sure there are many, many users like myself who would completely disagree with Tony's view on the company. The level of customer support and accountability for FX Home is very high - evidenced by the fact that senior company managers are answering Tony's posts!
