Hey everybody. Long tim, no see. So I know I haven't been on here for a while, but I'll cut to the question.

So, in the violent lightning preset in the library, the effect starts by the top part of the lightning flickering, then the lightning just starts to burt out. How do they do the flickering part?

Thanks,

Oh, P.S.

Because I need a new video card for hit film, I was debating just asking my parents for a laptop with a video card that will support it and the program itself for Christmas. What do you think I should do? Just ask for the card and the program, or the laptop and the program?

A laptop with a card capable of HitFilm isn't gonna be a cheap laptop, just so you know. I'd expect to pay $600 at least, though I don't have any specific figures in hand.

As far as the lighting, look in the keyframes of the preset to see which Attributes are being animated. In this case, its the Grow Start and Grow End attributes, which control the start and end of the visible arc across the total length of its path. Once you've found the attributes responsible, try mucking about with them a bit to see what they do, and you can likely get to understand those controls a bit better.
