Well their has been alot of debate over the way the voteing system works and so I have come up with a few ideas.

I think there should be a few points in which we can rate a movie on such as

the use of alam effects
the plot
the music/sound fx
acting
the use of other 3rd party software (such as 3ds max)
the work put into it (like the wing test lots of work but not very long)

I don't know maybe you have considered this before but I just wanted to put this here because I think it would make the voteing alot more fair

(like "the test" uses alot of 3rd party stuff such as AFX photoshop and others. but it does not use many alam fx unlike "the spell masters revenge" which uses alot of alam fx and uses them very well I may add)

You cannot really vote "fair". What you think of a movie is pretty much impression. Some poeple think certain effects or aspects look cool, othrs don't like them... Movies have a lot to do with taste... There are certain FACTS about a movie, but for we're all amateurs without decades of knowledge and experience even those points aren't clear to us.

Not trying to rigg the vote system by voting for or against a film just because you want it to be higher/lower or you simply like/don't like the author is the only thing you can do....

read this all.. there is more but it only shows the last x amount.
What it shows i a person ( someone that made the film with cypher opened 3 new accounts all from the same pc, and voted 5 on the film, so that 5 from 3 new people and 5 from cypher.
this means that film went into no.2 spot.
so those 3 then voted 0 for the test.

I can only see the answer as, they have to be a goldmember.

edit ( i stand corrected cypher voted 4 ) this seems to be a fair vote.
Sorry to cypher redface

If it's only gold member,s then we'll probably get a lot less votes than we normally would.

Just make it so they have to be around for more than a week or two, and that they have to have at least 30 posts.

woah, woah woah male...who said i actually made that film? read the description, i assited with adding the like 4 sounds, and like 5 muzzle flashes (and of course compression), i was never there for the shooting, i didn't have any input on how it was going to work. Only reason that it's my name is because i know how to submit films, and they don't (that and me putting in those 5 little flashes)

thus, since i really didn't take part, i voted for that film. the person that you are speaking of who created 3 accounts doesn't know you guys, and doesn't care whether you think he's cheating or not...so he did waht he did. look at my other films...have i voted for any of them...has anyone else from my computer voted for them (aside for i think 1 account, lunchbox, who votes on things because he sees them with me at my house).

oh, i don't think there is a fair way to vote.

Sorry, cypher if my facts about you are wrong.
But the guy did say he worked on the film, and you worked on the film.

so i put the 2 together ( nothing personal )
But just by those votes even you can see the need for a system.
If people was a goldmember they could comment then when they are a goldmember go back and vote. ( Not many people comment if the give lows scores )

this could be an idea, they have to be a goldmember but when they comment they could say " i would give this a 4 "

Or as someone else suggested 2 voting systems, on for non-members and one for members ( but on the members one would influence the charts )

Once again cypher sorry if that offended you. redface

wouldn't a simple plan be to make be registered for like 14 days a prerequisite before you could vote that would work? I know that's how the scope voting will be setup (or similar to an idea like that).

Hmm.. I've just had a great idea (At least I think it is)... smile

What about if you MUST Comment on a movie to vote? If you HAVE TO post a comment an the movie before you can vote for it.

Than you could easily see which votes can be taken as serious votes and wich ones can't accausing to the comment...

problem with that is the content of the post....this is a beckoning (sp) for things like "this film sucks" and a rating of 1. no explanation and no way to stop it

Hay
i got another idea.

I have seen a lot of people join just submit a film, or they have been here for 107 days, posted 3 times and then submits a film.

Maybe we should not vote and comment on thier film until they have voted and commented on ours ?

I know I've never put up any films on the "Cinema" mainly because my past efforts are absolute rubbish compared to what u guys turn out.
That said,I still believe the voting system should be scrapped......the pleasure of having a platform to show off your epics is ,in my mind,is reward enough.
Lets face it... it is'nt working...and not likely to.
"Solthar" says it for me in a recent post...

QUOTE

How many of us have been in despair watching some Hollywood Block buster drag itself across the screen that's cost milllions to make?
What "benchmarks" do we use for amateur movies when we vote?
My own voting pattern is usually high points 4/5...I have my reasons for this...
1.I've been involved in "Home Movies"for many years.(as a hobby)
and know the difficulties we face and time consummed to complete a project.
2.My comments and votes are based on how the movie "feels"to me.
3.A lot of you look at the tech side of things and cast your votes/comments accordingly, thats fine but I would never do that until I had a movie posted which could then be similarly judged.
Also we have a lot of young members ,very talented also, who through purely lack of years or maybe not had time to make their own productions might down vote a film because your best mate can't act as good as they do in "Buffy" or something without truly understanding the fact that we make "amateur" movies......no money.....no actors....no s/f/x
engineers and so on.......good job we've got AlanDV.

"Solthar" did say it better.

That would be too hard to implement b4uask.

It would also lead to a lot of confusion.

The fact of the matter is that the goldmembers and respected members of these forums know who the decent people are on these boards. The members who create new accounts to pitifully try and make their film out to be something they aren't are simply living a lie.

I think it should be left how it is. I know who makes excellent stuff, and I will watch it and not care what the ratings prior are.
