Whoo! The day has arrived! Xbox Live is running rampant! Those of you that have signed up for the service, post your gamer tags here, and the games you frequent. I'll be on all day tommorow with the UC servers, so find me if you can! Gamertag: Hajiku Flip (What a surprise eh?) If you have any questions, I'll answer them here.

  • Halo
  • Halo 2

lol

DarkJedi: last time i checked, halo 2 wasn't out.

3 of those games are also on PS2 (and 1 on gamecube i believe and you actually listed Sega GT 2002? Easily the worst and most dull/boring racing clone in all of racing game history.

Here are a few big ones for ps2 taht aren't on other systems:
  • GTA 3
  • GTA Vice City
  • Final Fantasy (almost all of em, including the ones released for PSOne)
  • RedFaction 1 and 2
  • SOCOM: Us Navy Seals
  • Tekken
  • Twisted Metal

And these are only a few of the recent ones which aren't on other systems.

Notice this though:

GTA 3

GTA Vice City

Twisted Metal

Those are the only games I like that you posted.....

And, no, Halo 2 is not out and will be coming out next June, but it is still a great game from the screen shots and movies. . And those screenshots and movies are from a VERY EARLY build of the game.. So that means it is good.....

The xbox is supposed to be technically better but its so much more buggy. Also the games are just not up to the level of the PS2.

Its a shame that it isn't as good as it could have been and that there arn't any games really taking advantage of all the features cos it does have some nice points.

Unfortunatly it doesn't have the huge Gameboy market to fall back on so I expect, when the online gaming flops, Microsoft will back out of the console market in much the same way as Sega have done.

This is for Live Gamertags, but I just have to say something. These are the speeds of the systems and how powerful they are... Gamecube: 430mhz. PS2: 295.96mhz. XBOX: 730mhz. And listen to this... 1000mhz is 1 ghz. 1ghz is the speed of a ocmputer. Now thats fast! But just think, PS3 will probably be really fast, but that is all we can hope for.

Firstly you can't just compare the speeds like that it doesn't mean anything since all the hardware is different and the speed isn't a good measure of the processing power.

Anyway the point is that the Xbox is more powerful but games arn't using the full capability.

The PS3 has been rumoured to use the new IBM chip which has a structure that will allow it to run about 100x faster than any previous console. That I must see, or was it just scaremongering Microsoft and Nintendo, who are both working on their next console!

A perfect point. I still prefer playing my Super Nintendo because the gameplay within nearly all the games I own for it are superb. Nothing has ever matched those games.

Plus xbox live sucks cos you have to buy the games and pay for the internet connection AND pay a subscription to MS for no reason!

Other internet gaming costs just the game and the connection.

Actually, Xbox live is one of the best console online packages you can get.

...actually it's pretty much the only one.

you pay fifty dollars to use Microsoft's servers for one year, and you get a headset. It's not a bad deal.

Kid: If Live sucks because you have to also buy the game and internet connection, then that must mean nearly EVERY online game sucks, because you usually have to pay to play those online also, like everquest and Final Fantasy. Besides, those are usually $10 a month, or $120 a year, PER GAME.

and the Xbox is not buggy, and many developers find it easy to create games for.

GOOD GAMES LIST:

Halo, of course. It is revolutionary. No denying it.
Splinter Cell
MGS2
Tony Hawk
MechAssault
UnrealChamp
Dead Or Alive 3
Project Gotham
House O' the Dead
Panzer Dragoon. (I know it's not out yet, but it'll be good. Trust me.)
Steel Batallion
Nightfire
Shenmue 2
Silent Hill 2

...And many more!

1. Those games aren't even multiplay.

2. Most games have free online play. The other consoles are free. And also MS have already said that some games may have an additional subscription for the game. Xbox Live is just MS milking you for cash.

3. Its only that cheap for the first year and a headset is worth about £5 tops.

4. The best games for multiplay are first person shooters and they are way better on the PC.

5. The xbox is very buggy for a console.

6. PS2 online gaming is due to be released after christmas in line with the drop in price of the console. After buying it there is no subscription.

Oh, I thought of some more games...

Morrowind. A great game.
TimeSplitters 2. Very cool.
all the sega sports games
all the EA sports games.

there are PLENTY of good games for the box.

Kid:

1. I'm not taling about online play. I know most of them aren't online. There good games. That's all.

2. what does gamecube have online? PSO? that's it, and you have to pay to play. The ps2 has some free games, but they aren't on a central server, limited to broadband use, so you can get hit with heavy lag, and other problems. You still have to subscribe to play many online games that are coming to the PS2.

3. I'n one year, I'm not gonna worry about $10 a month. $10 isn't a whole lot of money.

4. That's not the point. If you have an older PC, and you own an Xbox (like me), you'd be happy to get access to the online gaming world. I personally think consoles have better games then PC's, and it costs too much to keep a PC up to date. (not to mention errors and compatibility problems.)

5. Buggy? What do you mean? I haven't noticed any more errors than on any other console when playing games. If you mean for developers, I think you are mislead. Bugs come from game design, not console structure.

For destruction, there is no power greater than X.

We all have unreal for the PC. I don't see any reason to get it on a console. FPS are horrid on them without a mouse. Halo was only good cos of its original features.

I remember when all the Dreamcast people were playing Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament or whatever it was and they had to block PC users from coming in and beating them all cos its such an easier interface.

The PC allows you to react faster, have way better graphics and control. Faster, flashier, more fun. I think its worth the problems you occasionally get. Plus you can put together a game playing PC for £300 if you have a monitor already so its a bargain over a console.

Saying all that I am gonna buy a PS2 after christmas for what they are good at - beatemups, car games and generally more arcady stuff.

PS They all require broadband really. Some PC games will go over 56k but not very well.

I agree, Kid, but that's not really the point. I have an Xbox, and an okay PC, so I'm happy to get something like Xbox live, where I can finally get online, and talk to people while playing.

If I had a killer PC, I prolly wouldn't care about Live.

No, he's stuck with the name he's got forever. Even if you stop paying the bill next year, your name will probably stay stuck in a worm hole of cyberspace.

P.S.- You don't buy a new starter kit, you just get charged on the CC for another payment. You keep the gamer tag / stats.

I hope I have burnt the vile piece of crap that is my XBOX way before XBOX Live comes to the UK...

Good to see the worldwide sales of the PS2 running up to Christmas are still 3 times that of the XBOX (4 times here in the UK). Shame the GC has lost ground on both of them, it seems to have some of the best games now.

XBOX should really get some original games that are class leading. Unlike the PS2 I can't think of any games on the XBOX that would be considered class leading if you compare them to all the other platforms (PS2, GC and PC). XBOX users seem thing Halo is something special - it plays well for a console FPS but compared to the mad multiplayer games of Quake 3, UT2k3, MOH, RTCW, RS and CS its rather dull and nasty to play.

Microsoft lost $200million+ on XBOX in the last quater but said they will spend $2billion at the XBOX in the next 5 years to make it do well. Maybe instead of throwing money at advertising it they should get some better games and actually get a designer to make the damn thing attractive rather than the ugly box that it is.

Sorry, been having a bad day...

Halo is good for its split screen multiplay. Unique thing of having 2 weapons. And slightly for having vehicles although the control method is a bit rubbish.

The graphics are nothing special. Remember they are at a low res and framerate.

The levels are ok but there is A LOT of repetition especially in that bit where you are fighting the scourge.

Most of the weapons are nothing special.

My top FPS games are...

Unreal for range and originality of weapons.
Battlefield 1942 for use of vehicles.
Counterstrike for weapon choice system and games rules
Rogue Spear series for realism and humourous multiplay

How much have you played Halo, kid?

It's called the flood, not the scourge.

The graphics are something special, though not the best. the bump mapping is cool, and you don't see how good the graphics are until you walk out onto a field with a mini-war taking place on it. You can't have each character super detailed if you want to show a lot of them.

I agree with you on the repetition.

Weapons don't need to be over the top. There's nothing special about the weapons in rogue spear. The guns in Halo each have a strong and weak point that you get to know.

The killer thing about Halo is the AI. You need to play on the legendary difficulty to experience it.

And the multiplayer does rock, especially with more than four people.

If you want the best multiplayer FPS you still have to turn back to Goldeneye. Forget all the fancy graphics and 'user-selectable' modes. Goldeneyes was just the bods dollocks and still is.

If you want the best shooter or FPS my new king is now Metroid Prime. It offers something Halo doesn't.. more freedom and adventure. Prime is what gaming has been missing which is the feel of the golden oldies iwh the technology of the new platforms.

Halo was superb. Fantastic. Amazing. Metroid Prime is better.

Also, Zelda just got 40/40! Woahhhh, and it was in Famitsu!

I don't know about Metroid. I know the game kicks ass, but comparing it to Halo is like comparing apples to oranges, in my opinion. Metroid isn't as much a FPS as it is other things.

Me thinks I shall stick with my Xbox for Halo 2, and borrow a gamecube from my friend to play metroid. (kool-aid man voice) Ohhhh Yeahhhh.

cool

P.S. Perfect Dark Zero is coming out for Xbox!

How much have you played Halo, kid?

It's called the flood, not the scourge.
I played it the whole way through. Ah, yes the flood. You get confused with all these enemies. Especially as they are a complete rip off of the things from halflife.

The thing you all seem to be overlooking is that these sort of games on the PC are way way better. Not only are they faster, better looking, better control, and have more people but are more fun in general I think.

I agree with everything Kid just said, especially the halflife reference. IMHO, no FPS beats halflife...and will probably stay like that for a while.

My gamertag is Chainsawash. I haven't been playing much lately but when I do it's MechAssault or Ghost Recon. Once they release Capture the Flag for MA I'll be there though!
