First, i have my avatar here, which is 65x65, no i want a new avatar: 60x50, but i cant have it because the site feels that 50x50 is what i have earned, now, i just want a new avatar, a smaller one at that - so why do i have to earn it, why cant i just change it?

Im afraid to say, that among all the millions of great ideas you've implemented on the website, the avatar restriction is just plain stupid, it gains nothing except people having to make their avatars really really small and unfun. the avatar is not personal, it makes the forum fun for everyone. i think you either have to make the restriction higher, as in 50x50 being 65x65, or 10x10 being 25x25 or whatever the restrictions is, or just taking it off totally - since it helps noone.

I have added a poll to this, if it matters, to see who feels the same way as i. Do not fool, i feel this is a serious matter since an avatar is a way to show yourself to the public, plus i have a really cool one that i cant put up razz

Didnt expect 3 votes of not wanting something more... hrmm...

The signature is one thing, but just putting a small picture on the signature would just be a waste of space in the forum and make the thread longer since my signature is allready pretty long.

But keep in mind guys, we have to watch the banners. If we get too crazy with them, you'll see a restriction on those too. oink

There needs to be avatar restrictions.

I KNOW that someone will think it's funny to hav ea 500x500 avatar or whatever, then make csb host it. csb IS hosting these avatars (most a da time), and they need bandwidth.

preeeciousssssss badwidth . . . . . . . . . . . .

cause not everyone can get their own hosting.

oh and i think mine is just fine.

hey that ryhmes!

that ryhmes too...tard

The maximum avatar size is 80x80 which I think is a decent size to be creative with. Any bigger than that and it starts to become a drain on resources.

The avatar size is now linked to force to provide more of a challenge, and as a reward. People with higher force counts will be rewarded with larger avatars. This seems fair because it means they have put the most into the community. People with lower force counts will be motivated to contribute more if they want larger avatars.

I should have implemented it from the start, then people wouldnt have been upset by their max size becoming smaller. I did take that into consideration and let anyone keep a large avatar if they had already set one.

Most people seem to like the new scheme (as your poll shows too), so we are going to keep it for the moment.

the only thing I can't understand is when I joined, oh 50 or 60 days ago, after a few posts, I could upload an image 80 x 80. So I did and after a wile I noticed that everyone had the one I had so I wanted to change. When I did, I went from 80 x 80 to 25 x 25. Now I am stuck with this tiny picture when I had the biggest size avaliabe with the least force points

I think Malone's post above explains it very well, dude. This is a new implementation, so the 80x80 avatar size is no longer the default for everyone. Don't worry too much about it, 'cos you'll be able to upload bigger avatars as your force points continue to grow smile

I voted no NOT to remove the restriction. It makes perfect sense to me the way it is. I am new here and so why should I be given everything that the veterans who have developed knowledge and helped out fellow members have right off the bat? rolleyes
However I found this post in the first place trying to figure out how these guys get these banners in their signatures. I tried pasting one in and it didn't work maybe it is wrong file format if so what is the right format???????
Plus with only 26 X 26 look how cool my son looks in my avatar!

Thanks! biggrin

and for your question :

Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor images stored behind authentication mechanisms, e.g. hotmail or yahoo mailboxes, password protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).
