I've noticed that a pattern has been developing on the site for a while now, that people are using their ability to give ratings to posts as a means to reward people for their effort on creating plug-ins. So you end up getting posts like this:

"Wow, thanks for your awesome plug-in! Post something here so I can give you some force."

While the idea and the appreciation are certainly commendable, this is actually an improper use of the post rating system. It kind of defeats the purpose of the whole system, which is to enable users to quickly find informative and helpful POSTS.

So my suggestion is this: Modify the plug-ins rating system that is currently in place, in which you can rate a plug-in from 0 to 5 stars, so that your rating of the plug-in transfers a corresponding number of force tokens to the creator of the plug-in. If you rate a plug-in at 5 stars, 5 of your force tokens go to the user who built the plug-in. This would give everybody a specific means to show their appreciation and reward the plug-in creators for their efforts, without messing up the post rating system.

What do you guys think?

i have been guilty of thanking someone for a good plugin by giving force redface

I like your idea, but ( feel free to back me up guys )

There are people on here that would love force points and might have about 25 to give away on the normal " give this post a rating "
eg: your post i could give a +1 to ( at this point i have 50 to give away )

or i could transfer force which would lower mine and i still would have 50 to give away ( and on another post not so long ago malone said that people was hording these points and keeping them at 50 )

I just feel that the way people act towards force ( eg: hi someone give me some force ) i don't think they would ever use the transfer.

An interesting suggestion, Axeman, but I fear that it'll only result in people refraining from voting so as to prevent the loss of their own force points. smile

On a related note, I'd like to appeal to everyone on this forum to award tokens more judiciously: recently I've noticed a sharp increase in tokens awarded for the most inane posts. Kinda makes the whole force points system kinda cheap biggrin

Rating: +1

Yeah, I didn't actually mean that it would transfer force away from you, but that it would use the rating tokens just like rating posts. We acquire tokens for the specific purpose of using them to rate other posts. 'Spending' them does not lower your own force or affect it in any way.

I just thought that since people are using their tokens to award plug-ins, maybe Malone could set up a way to do the same thing properly, without it affecting the post rating system.

i believe the force transfer is acctually here for more or less appreciation points... if someone deserves some force, dont give points to his posts, just transfer some of your force to him - its only fair.

Xfurball- you are absolutely right. A Force Transfer is the proper way to do it.

The only reason I suggested a change is that people are not using it. I think people in general get very attached to their force rating, and do not want to part with any of it, so they use their force tokens as a way to give force without bringing their own total down.
