Can people please give ratings to useful and interesting posts as well as just for funny comments? It seems that you only get rated for something humourous recently.

It doesn't really go with the whole thing of being rewarded for helping people out.

Take Mecha, he gets +1s just for looking funny!

I agree. While I appreciate humor as much as anyone, that is not what I think the post ratings should mark. and lately it seems that is the primary reason posts get rated. I haven't yet thought of a good solution or correction to the problem.

That's my main complaint nowadays. Mainly just the immaturity in the forums that I've seen since coming back. That relating to force points is just the fact that people give out these tokens for no reason now. I think we should limit the token amount now, maybe even the voting limit. Any suggestions?

Yes, I agree. Let's take away our last shred of democracy in these forums, and turn it into a total communistic society.

As DarkJedi once said, "The Declaration of Independence says so."

If I "earn" a token I will spend it as I wish.
It doesn't matter to me what anyone thinks about how I
spend it.

Personally, I don't consider the tokens of much value.

I consider the AlamDV community as a whole
to be the most valuable.
I like to view the movies to get ideas, regardless
of the content of the movie.
Also, I like to read the various posts and try to help
out the Mac and Final Cut Pro users.
These are the things I value most.
So, I may just give my tokens out randomly for my own
fun and amusement.

Let's see, I have one more token left... rolleyes

I agree, force points are not something to be taken to heart. Although on the same token, they were not created to be thrown around. They are meant to be a symbol of prestige, not a symbol of 'how many times you can ask for force in a day'. Now we have people intentionally making 3-4 "funny" posts a day, and they are just clouding the forums. Remember, this is a place to learn and chat on a [mature] level. I'm sure there are a few others that agree with me.

Well, I'm sure most of you have read my 'Smiley Face Definition Handbook' by now, and probably bought your own personal copy. So, with the popularity of my last thread, I decided to make another one. So I took all the smiley faces, and printed them out. I took each face and threw it in a test tube with some Mustard and Sugar Water. These are my results. You have been warned....

That was a year or so ago, and me and a few friends were just being retarded. But for one, that post took a long time to make. Pictures had to be loaded, sent to a server, etc. If your going to make a funny post in the forums that take more effort then just slapping a half-assed joke on the forum, then go right ahead. Otherwise, save it. oink

Well, personally, I thought that the test tube baby thing was funny. Unfourtunatly it wasn't a "Laughing WITH you" situation.

But that frozen mouse fetus thing is kinda funny in a messed up way.

Where the heck did you get it?

PS: Big letters do not mean big seriousness.

I think I've just realized what the problem is. Some people are looking at the whole force tokens and rating system from a "Force" point of view, rather than from a "Quality of Posts" point of view, which is what they were originally intended for.

The system was devised to help new and veteran users of the forum to quickly see which threads and posts have some value, and might be helpful to various individuals. The fact that the one who posted it gets force points for the rating is really just a bonus. If you focus on the force aspect of it, rather than on the quality of the posts, it kind of falsifies the system.

Does each user's force level really matter? Not much. eek Is it fun to try and get more? Yeah. twisted biggrin Should it be taken quite seriously? I don't think so. sad tard

It really is not that big of a deal, but if we all try to keep in mind what the post rating system was designed for, it could straighten this whole thing out. Properly used, the system works out for the benefit of everyone. At this point in time, it does not. If you look at the ratings of various threads, trying to find useful info, often you will be mislead due to the large number of "funny" posts which get ratings. That, I believe, was the original point of this thread, and should just be a reminder to all of us. smile

Nobody is saying that you can't reward funny posts, but it seems like those are the only ones some people are giving ratings to at all. Just try to find a balance.

That 'frozen mouse fetus' as you refer to it is called a pinky. They are baby mice that you can buy alive (my favorite) or frozen (my pocketbook's favorite). They are used to feed reptiles.

Hajiku_Flip now I know what your name means. lol You Flip your point of view to suit current requirments. ie) From supporting no jokes to OH only jokes I find funny are allowed (like my own he says).

What ever happened to people supporting the right to free speech and democratic voting?

No, one's flipping their point of view. The problem at the moment is that ratings are going to funny posts only at the moment. Helpful posts need to get some ratings as well. It should be a balance and it isn't atm.

Also people quite often trade ratings. I noticed someone gave someone a rating earlier in this thread and in return they gave one back. This should not be allowed at all. Also when there are friends rating each others posts up (Sidey and Mecha for example), that is a bit dubious too.

Kid I can see your point but at the end of the day I know you are a very helpful guy and have very good knowledge in certain areas (eg codecs). I know that without looking to see how long your sabre is. You take this force point thing too seriously. I hope you also dont think how worthy or good you are by sizing yourself up against the guy beside you in the urinal also??? rolleyes

Anyway your original post was fair. I did slightly mis read it. Apon review you suggest we should ALSO give points for useful and interesting posts. I think I may have read that as only.

So gentle reminder for everyone to reward the useful people as well as the funny people. (Maybe you should be useful, interesting and funny).

I don't take it too seriously its just my saber was very small and I felt underpreciated. It was only 300 and something before I started badgering people to give me force!
