Looks good, but as a teaser or trailer there was wayyyy too much black.
( i mean when you fade out balck it stayed black far to long )

Looking mighty impressive, Mecha
Those cityscape fly-throughs are mindblowingly good
The compositing also looks top-notch! Please compress the final release a bit better, though: the blockiness takes away from the impact of the film significantly
Lookin' forward to it!

Wow, you're the first one to notice the star wars ships.
Oh, and that city you see at the beginning is made of 450,000 polygons.

it looks like you copy "Equilibrum"
very good but I prefer the music in the Equilibrum trailer

Impressive effects work. The least imaginitive tagline I've encountered since I saw a trailer with exactly the same tagline. If you can make a complete CGI city surely you can come up with a decent tagline. Didn't like the music either. However it does look good, very slick, although it told me sweet f.a. Good work don't get me wrong. However reminding the viewer of "Equilibrium" isn't a good move. Good but not great. Still looking forward to the completed film though.

what? Could you say that again with a little more grammar?
Oh yeah, we just threw this up as another taste before the final release. Don't worry about the equilibrium taglines, or whatever.
Though if you don't like that song, too bad for you.

I liked the music very cool. Shouldn't it have read "...than the system" as oppsed to then the system? Otherwise the titles looked cool, and went well with the music. I give you a 3 cause there were no effects in it.

come on atleast try to make up your own ideas instead of stealing it from a good movie. Its like you took everything from it. I bet if anyone could find the music for it you would use that too. As you can see the 1 on it thats from me. I hope there is more with me out there who thought these guys are terrible. Its not just this movie it is all of your others too. But on positive note i like it how it was short because i dont want to waste my time with you garbage.

What are you talking about? Equilibrium? Dude, we were creating the storyboards for DXM while they were probably still filming.
Seriously, please tell me what you didn't like in the movie.
The titles are more of a joke as to how similar DXM is to Equilibrium.
We didn't take this preview too seriously, since were spending most of our time finishing DXM, Don't expect too much out of it besides another glimpse at the full thing.

To be honest, I'm not really that impressed with the virtual city. Not that I don't like it, I obviously do. But anyone who knows anything about 3D Animation knows that if you have the building models, which they did, you just put them where you want and animate the camera. I'm actually more impressed with the ship flying over the street, or carrying the bad guys. That looked really nice. Remember, I'm not putting it down, just rating it on a difficulty aspect.

Ah yes, but I built all but a few of those buildings (the big gray ones and the large brownish one were downloaded).
But you are right about building a city in general. They are extremely easy, if you take the shortcuts that 3d allows. This one had to be a fully detailed model, though, and you'll see why in the final movie.
Also, that was only about 1/8th of the flyby.

Sheesh! You guys sure are anal about things. As a programmer you have to be anal, analretentive, that is.
From what I read, not just this thread but from many others, ALOT of people just don't take criticisms well, here. This "artistic" point of view, is blind, because no one really accepts the criticisms, without retaliating in a harsh way.
This is what I see: Some person comes an watch a film, made by, say, AverageJoe Productions. And JohnDoe, comes in and says, "I didn't like the 3D effects. It was blurry." In reply, AverageJoe says, "What? You son of a #*$$#! Can you do better? You sack of @#%^$! What the #$*^ is your problem? Put up, or shut up, you #$^%ing $@%@#!"
What does that say? It says how people are so sentitive about things. How many people have you heard reviews and critiques say, "I just didn't like that movie. It was boring an dull," and you heard the producers and directors say, "What?! Can you do better? I don't see you making million dollar movies and #$@#! If you can't make a million dollar movie, then shut the hell up, you @$#$ers!"
The problem is, who really are humble enough to actually take in, "you movie sucks" without yelling an cussing at someone? NO ONE ON THIS SITE, that for sure. I have seen this in and out. NO ONE ON THIS SITE IS HUMBLE enough to just "let it go."
You all are just amateurs. Don't get all prideful, alright? Even as amateurs, you need to be "constructive" about taking criticisms, as well as making them.
As for my comments on this film, I will not say. Too many pissed off people here. If I say a good comment, I will be thanked, but if I say a bad or near-negative comment, I will be bushwhacked by some HICK who thinks he's too good for ALAMDV.
Anyways, it's a good thing all of you are still amateurs, because your movies, may be okay to look at, your attitude still stinks.
If you can't take criticisms of any kind, just shut your face or don't put any of your sorry, low budget films, away, k? Sorry, about the last sentence, that was an attack on those who just take things further than supposed to.

I disagree with you. There are many people here who can take critisism without any problems.
It's the way it is made. I am sure you see the difference between "I didn't like the movie." and "But on positive note i like it how it was short because i dont want to waste my time with you garbage."
It is everyones right not to like something and most people in this forum respect this. But critisism in the that way is not only critisism, but a personal attack. And intended personal attack and I'm sure you know that as good as I do. And that is not going to be tolerated here, you're right there.
And on se cond note: Read Sidewinders answer (he's one of the makers). He wasn't rude. He even reflected that rude comment seriously wich is something I personally wouldn't even think about with a comment like that.

Wow, I nearly missed out on reading these posts.
Hope you don't mind me sticking my 2 cents worth in.
I have to agree with the makers of this trailer ( i can't comment if it's the same as some other film that i have no idea about, and I would not comment as i make copies of stargate, different stories, but still copies )
Anyway, i've had my fair share of bad comments, and the comments that hurt are the ones that say " crappy film, " but the comments i like are
" crappy film, because your sound was too low " or
" Didn't like it, the shadows on the 3d stuff was crap "
at least negative information can be used to produce a better film next time.
( just look at the first post on here, by me, i said i thought there was too much black, i didn't knock the trailer but just told what i thought was wrong )
So to be fair to both sides, if you don't like it ( other than it's a copy ) could you give them real reasons.
( I going now before i get bushwacked )

I'm also gonna say this one more time.
We didn't copy Equilibrium.
If you insist that we did, I don't care. I won't bother trying to convince you otherwise.
And, like I also said, we aren't too worried about how people receive this preview. We put one up because we said we would in the spotlight. If you guys don't like it, I'm not to worried.
But I would still like to hear criticism.

Not much to go on really, its only a trailer after all. Looks ok though. Oh by the way, I think I'm correct in thinking Deus Ex Machina is actualy a game. I'm not sure if you based it on that though. Seems a fair few of you have got bees in your bonets, loads of petty insults flying around.
I'll save my full review for the complete movie.
It was a poor quality compression though. Which is a shame.

Well, honestly, I put this thing together in about 20 minutes.
I can't believe how much people are getting worked up about it . .
The only thing equilibrium has to do with the movie is the titles. That's it.
Everything else was luck.

My goodness, what a load of cack these people talk. The film? I like it. But what I don't like is the obvious dark looking city against "real" shots that don't seem to match up.
A film which nails it perfectly is something like Batman. Dark appearance and matched visuals.
It's strange looking. One minute... DARK city. Then it's... HAPPY bright world.
I'm not explaining this well! But it's not really a dig, ok?

Man, this was quite a bombshell. I personally thought the preview was great. Now, since it isn't the actual movie, I'm not going to give comments on it, because I really don't care to start any more stupid arguments. But I will mention some things. You guys get all worked up when someone calls your movie dumb, and then you go and criticize other's work saying that they copied the idea, or that the movie completely sucks, or anything! How do you know that MechaForce and Sidewinder copied Equilibrium?! Unless you were with them when they wrote it all out, you can't say anything. Seriously, one of the main reasons I don't post movies on this site is because of people like you guys! I don't make movies for other people who don't know any more than I do to make fun! It isn't worth it, really! And when someone tells the entire community that we are all only amateurs, someone flips out and spawns more stupid arguments. We ARE amateurs! Just because some of you can make an animation of a Star Wars ship flying over the moon, you think you have it made. You instantly know everything because you can make a movie, wow. There truly is a lot more to making films than the way you guys think, and I'm pretty sure you know that, but you just don't want to acknowlege the fact. And now I feel like I'm going off on everyone. Look what you've done!

I think that the point that most people here are trying to get across, is that we like CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, but pure hateful bashing is unacceptable.
If you don't like it, then say exactly why, in a civil, appropriate manner. i.e. : you should say "I don't like it because it seemed like they totally copied Equilibrium." instead of "You stupid muther fukers! I wanna kill you now because you wasted my time making a god damn awful rip off of equilibrium!!!
you get what I mean?
toyPYRO - it's not that we get all worked up when someone doesn't like our movie. . . we get all worked up when people are disrespectful about it.

Yeah, we did use the same words, becuase the movies were freakishly similar. It's more of a joke, rather than blatantly ripping them off.

It may seem odd that the DXM trailer came out before the Equilibrium trailer, because the DXM story matches up perfectly with Equilibrium's titles and plot. But, things like that have happened before. I once wrote out this awesome story line. Everything was totally perfect. I was going to start filming quite soon, and then one of my friends told me about this movie that had the exact same plot. I didn't believe him, so I dismissed the matter. Then he rented the movie and showed it to me. That totally sucked. Coincidences do occur.

Wow- this topic has ruffled some feathers eh? At any rate- some comments... I liked the music- the titles were cool, and I've never seen that Equilibrium trailer folks are talking about so I don't really give a toot if it's similar or not. I liked the CG in most of the shots and had some interesting camera movements through the city. Some of the textures on the city were a little... eh. Maybe play around with some of the specular highlites and reflections. Maybe look at retexturing some of the buildings. The drop ship landing in the street looked pretty sweet! Also liked the shot of the guys in black in the drop ship. I'm sure that wasn't very easy to composite since it was a moving shot and all. Bluescreen was pretty crisp- The shot of the guy on top of the drop ship looked like it needed some color correction or something. It didn't blend right or something- I dont know. I think the contrast between the background and the actor wasn't right because as you fade to black, you can still see the guy almost perfectly, yet the background disappears. That was a little weird. I must also admit that seeing the Star Wars ship in there was odd. I'd recommend doing more to change the ship than just putting the DXM logo on the side. For instance, reshape it by removing those wings and pull some engines off a Jet model or something and stick them on in its place. I'd also recommend changing the texture maps on that model wholesale. Maybe go with an all grey type of texture similar to the drop ships in Minority Report. And I must admit that I think Apple's MP4 codec is not good. I was very difficult to get any kind of clarity in the image and it was odd to see the clip Over 2 megs for something that was about a minute and all black screen for most of it.
Well, that's my comments. I am looking forward to the final version, but as some others have said, I thought your other preview was better.
Posted: Wed, 12th Feb 2003, 8:30pm
Post 49 of 64
Thanks for the tips!
Unfortunately, we're already past the half-way point, so we can't change the ship models now...or the buildings for that matter.
But greenscreen issues will be sorted out, and everything will be color corrected and filtered in order to blend well.
The guy stands out because we had the background fade first, on purpose. The compression kind of screwed up the effect, though, so it looks kind of crappy.
And we got a lot of stuff with real elements combined with 3d models, like in the dropship, so I'm glad you like that.

If anyone wants to see MPEG4 movies, like this one, you dont have to buy
Quicktime 6 Pro, just use Kazaa or Kazaalite (kazaalite is much better, no
adware or spyware) to download it, install it onto your comp and use the
updates button to get MPEG 4 viewing capabilities. Stay away from
downloading software that is very small (e.g. 43 KB), probably has a
virus! It should work, but if not, 30 bucks wont hurt. Good Luck!
