Hi, I have frequently tried to access the Live chat function - yet everytime i join a room and try and communicate i get no response ... for minutes on end until all hope is lost and I logout. Does anyone else experience this or am i alone in this cold hard world? wink

The chat is working fine. The only problem is we dont have enough people to make it lively 24/7. Most of us tend to idle there, which means we leave our software connected all the time then check up on whats being said every so often. If your only dropping in for 10 minute periods your unlikely to catch anyone awake.

The other trick is to talk about something interesting. We get lots of people who drop in and leave us a string of messages like
>hello
>hello? anyone there?
>HEEEELLLLLOOO?
>heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllooooooooo?!!!!!!!!!11111
This rarely inspires anyone to respond.

We could do with a few more users on the chat. But its a bit of a catch 22, no-one sticks around when theres no-one to talk to.

Prehaps we can tempt people in with force points. Some kinda deal like you get x force points per day if you spend y amount of time on the chat smile

Well, I'm usually almost always there in the evenings. The day chat is pretty livley with the UKer's, and I'm on from 4:00pm in the afternoon till about midnght doing some work, but the chat is always open so I frequently talk to people who stop by for help and what not. There is only a couple hour period where the Americans and Euro's are all in bed, so for the most part there is always at least someone there to talk to. smile

Thats my whole point - we send messages like hellllooooooooo in order to see if anyone is actually there and willing to help instead of confusing and irritating those who agonisingly wait or type paragraphs of messages to no avail. If you stay connected and go back later to see whats been said, what is the point if the people that need help have gone by this point. For example I logged in and 8 users were listed - none of which were actually there.... u follow?

I'm not getting at anyone by the way - just pointing out a flaw crazy

Well, another thing is I bet your using the Java app straight off the site. Most of the 'regulars' use a program called mIRC, and that allows us to be in multiple channels (chats) at the same time. So when you may be trying to talk to people in #alamdvchat, the people in there might be in a discussion in #chat, and just not see you until your gone. Another thing is, say you log in. You see Malone, Schwar, Egbert, Tarn, Kid, maybe Blue, and yourself. Egbert is a robot, so he doesn't count smile, and the rest are all Euros, so chances are if one is gone, they are all gone (sleeping). They leave their names there to get the logs in case someone comes in and they need something or what not. Tarn and Schwar have a tendancy to be on late, and like I said I'm usually on. And since I can never seem to wrap up a post in this thread, I'll just say "AlamDV RoX" and be done with it. AlamDV Rox. biggrin

I'm probably gonna regret saying this, but if you come on and type my name, my computer shouts at me. So if I'm not paying attention, but I am actually in my house (and awake!), I'll respond.

I don't want hundreds of people coming in shouting my name now though. razz

*notes how to get back at Tarn*

I don't go on chat anymore.

Tarn corrupts my fragile mind with exceptionally good music.
