Hi all

I once again need your help and advice... smile

As some of you may know, our next project will be a stylish comic-short. And we're already starting (slowly) with the designing process.

So I was sitting on my desk trying to draw a little something for our main hero (who is a very strong, dark and vengeful character). And this is what I first came up with... what do you think?

(I know, I can't draw. Just look at the design and not at my drawing) smile

The mask is maybe a bit too Spawn-like. The black area around the neck and upper torso makes it look like he's wearing odd dungarees.

But the overall design I like a lot.

The suits cool, but what does the hero do, what does he fight in the name of? u've got to design a suit that reflects their personality/character - tho it has got to b realllllllly coool too!!! lol

Give us a bit more detail about the hero (if it doesn't reveal too much before the film!!!) & I may be able 2 give more advice (I'm an artist). biggrin

Chow. wink

Yeah, that's much better Sollthar!

I notice you've covered up his entire face. Sure you don't want anything exposed? You haven't even got his eyes showing.

No no, sure.

He was a cop who got seriously burned while chasing a gangsterboss. he wakes up in the hosiptal not knowing where he is or who he is (the guys from hospital doesn't know it either, police and family thinks he died). The only thing he remembers is the last face he saw. And that's his main concern. Revenge on that face he sees when he closes his eyes.

That's the base of the story-

A black cape could look kinda cool. smile

Maybe with inner red lining. biggrin

I'd do some test shots, with and without the cape, see which looks best. It's going to come down to how it looks when in motion.

Well, to be honest, I only thought of doing one last night, so I haven't progressed very far with it yet. smile

It as after watching Daredevil that I decided to do one.

Haven't yet decided what sort of style to do mine in...whether to do it tongue-in-cheek and comedy, or very serious. Or a mix.

I'm tempted to either do a superhero with a very silly superpower, or to do a very realistic Watchmen-style thing. We'll see. smile

By the way, how are you planning on actually making this costume? Looks like you want it to be a tight-fitting Batman-type material.

All in all I think your hero looks pretty cool (second picture) but I am not sure about the dark color you used in his suit it looks kinda like he is all dirty or perhaps like a naked black man.

I plan to get it made in a local store. They deal with Latex and Rubberclothing, so I give them the sketches and measurements to make it. I'm willing to pay a lot to make it look cool... smile

I'm sure the dark colors will look cool when made of rubber and light correctly... smile

the colour of the suit looks very dark and morbid biggrin

Trying adding alittle colour to the costume, what do wonderwoman, superman and spiderman have in common ? (not that they all have super powers) they have colours that represent (or supposedly) represent the colours of the american flag. Which stand for justice, power, freedom of speech, "we are the most powerful" we are the greatest ! biggrin .

(I am not american by the way heheheh biggrin )

Think about a colour which represents somthing in real life, am I making sense here ?? confused

Yeah... i know the american flag thing... I don't want to go with these...
I need something that reflects his dark soul. So dark colors will be needed... mostly black. The whie/grey is more of a contrast to give shape...
colors are always looking pretty joyful... and he has no joy left.

Curran, I think that's more to do with the pose. He's not exactly striking a superhero pose - he look more like someone who has accidentally got stuck in a cold shower.

However, if that suit was worn and was moving properly, I think it would look kick ass.

My superhero wasn't going to have a costume as such. But I'm worried about being upstaged now, so I might have to look into it. biggrin

Mine will be more of a Blade-style costume, though - as in, it'll be made of largely 'normal' clothing and armour, rather than a specially designed suit.

I think that if you want your superhero to stand out from the other suited crime fighters you have to ground his design in reality...

Superman's mum made his costume, Spiderman made his for wrestling. Darkman found his in a dumpster, as did The Crow. The X-men wear theirs as a uniform...

You have to ask why is your is guy wearing this... Is it just coz it looks kinda cool..? Did he make it himself? Is it designed to disguise himself or make himself stand out?

If you wanted you go really morbid/dark, then the suit should have some recogniseable but perverted police motif to represent your character's backstory. Ie maybe he has a badge shape on the shoulders but it's blackened or deformed. Maybe biker-cop boots, maybe a nightstick motif...

Colour is important too. Black + white are cop colours, but so are blue and white, green and white etc... You might want to think about textures instead... Make the whole thing black but certain areas are like shiny PVC, certain areas are matte...

If you want the guy to be a sympathetic character you'll need to see his eyes. No way around it. Maybe they can glow red when he's using his powers or becoming enraged.

Does your guy really need a cape? Batman's reflects the animal he's obsessed with, Superman's flutters in the air when he's flying, Spawn's does a whole host of cool shit. To put a cape on him just coz he's got super-powers is the best way of making him look like a Mexican wrestler...

Wow, thanks for all the info great one!

It's... we're not yet sure about a lot of things in the movie. That's why the designing process will take a while (don't forget, this is the very first sketch). We don't know yet why he wears that suit or where he gets it from.
What I do know is that I do not plan on losing a lot of time on that, many things will just be like we show them to be and people will have to accept it, or not... smile
But I have to think of more background to go into the design.

Hmm... That looks much better Hajiku Flip! Thanks! I'll go with that for the moment!!! smile

Oh, thanks!

I've drawn that guy on paper and scanned it into photoshop (BW, just outside lines). There I paint him using the paint tool in one single color eg grey steps.
And then I use the sponge/burn tools to make him shinier and darker and give him a little more 3D appearance. that's all.

http://fff.fathom.org/heromaker/index.fhtml

check out the guy I made WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Abandoned at birth George Moir roamed the streets as a street-smart rougue having also to look after his smaller, weaker brother. Stealing for his dinner he learned the ways of stealth. Witnessing his brothers brutal beating by a coldhearted gang of thugs conviced him too use his natural skills he learned as a child to fight crime.

I'm awesome, no I'm not making a movie, I just made that story up!

That said, I hope you won't mind me pointing this out, but I think the anatomical proportions of your 3D model still need a bit of tweaking: the legs, in particular, seem a little "off" wink The quads seem a little too emaciated, and the calves a little too blocky. I apologise if these were intended!
