Is there anyway to record a person in front of a black background and put the film into an image sequence and make it into a plug-in?

Yes, film the person, export the movie at a series of stills and then use any imageapp you wan't to paint the rest black... Then turn it into a plugin with the AlamDV Plugger...

Oh, so I don't actually have to have the person in front of a blacbackground, I can just paint the background black using an image application? What image or photo application do you recommend for this type of work?

Premiere version 6.5 is out right now, but there is a 6.0 tryout version you can download from their site. http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/main.html#
As far as photoshop goes, I don't know much about that. I use paintshop right now and I don't know what the differences are between the two.
