Chromanator video preview!

It's the video you've all been waiting for...the Chromanator preview. Have a look at some of the features of our upcoming compositing and bluescreening package by downloading the QuickTime file using the link below:

Chromanator Preview (10MB QuickTime 5 or greater)

The preview highlights the Object Interface and the Animation Interface showing you a small selection of the new functions in the G6 engine.

The Object Interface is where you place your media files on the timeline, similar to the timeline interface in AlamDV2. The Animation Interface is where you can alter the dimensions of your source clips and move them around the screen. Veteran AlamDV users will recognise the basics of the Quad system, but the Quad Palette and variable tween effects are brand new features of the new G6 engine that powers Chromanator, AlamDV3 and DigiGrade.

Here are some exclusive Chromanator screenshots so that you can check out the interface in more detail (click on the small versions to enlarge):

Latest developments

As some of you have already noticed, the deadline for the launch of our totally revamped website has snuck by and we are still using the old design.

Unfortunately, the launch of FXhome.com and the Chromanator release date have both slipped by a few weeks. The FXhome.com launch is now the 26th of May with Chromanator following within a couple of days. There are many reasons for this, including unexpected hardware failure, but the main reason is that we have pushed far past our original specifications. As most of you are no doubt aware, major projects have a habit of taking on a life of their own, becoming more elaborate than you initially intended and growing far beyond the original plans.

We are making sure that everything is as perfect as possible, and that means taking the time to get things right. All of us here at CSB-Digital hate delays as much as you do - but as a small company with plans of expanding in the future it would be a bad idea to release something that was not our best work. By taking this extra development time we can add all the special features and implement all our ideas, delivering a superior product to you all.

Thanks for your continued patience and enthuasiasm - the team greatly appreciates it! Please bear with us during these final stages - the time draws near, and we promise that it will be worth the wait!

Impressive cool I'm looking forward to the next installment, where bluescreening is going to be discussed. I believe that is the core selling point of Chromantor smile

I agree. Take your time and get it right. A question, however. How will your Chromanator experience compare to how I currently pull of blue/green screen in Premier 6.5 or AE 5.5? Will it do a better job, have more power, etc?

Also, can't wait to see how AlamDV 3 will look. Keep up the good work.

Ragnar - I have used Premiere extensively myself, when putting together Muffy & Jebediah 2 amongst other things. I have yet to use Premiere 6.5, but Chromanator is a major improvement over Premiere 6.1.

Premiere's compositing and animation tools have always seemed like a bit of an afterthought to me - Premiere does, after all, have a lot of other things to do. Chromanator, on the other hand, has been designed with compositing specifically in mind. Every single little detail has been crafted with the aim of making compositing easier, better and more powerful.

The demo should speak for itself when it is released - then you will be able to compare it with your current set-up.

As a filmmaker myself, I can't wait to have a play with the final versions of the new CSB products...if I wasn't part of the team I'd be looking forward to Chromanator as much as anyone else. Chromanator, AlamDV3 and DigiGrade are the programs I've always wished I could buy - now, of course, I have the good fortune of being involved in their creation. Which means, amongst other things, that I get to play with it before anyone else. cool

i don't want to sound too pushy as i am really looking forward to these new programs, but when are the other programs going to be released, will they be the same as in the first post. I doubt this if you are having a problem with hardware. I am asking because i need to save up the money to actually purchase the program

Each program will have a different skin, but only the text can be changed, not the colours.

We are looking into supporting sound output, it might not make the first release of Chromanator, but we will try and get it working either when we release AlamDV3 a month later or DigiGrade the month after that. Once its working we will update all the programs so they support sound output.

What exactly does DigiGrade do?

Also, one thing that annoyse me is when bluescreening in Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.. it can only remove one colour at a time, So i have to repeat the process on several clips with different tints of greens... If you know what i mean confused

Will Chromanato be able to overlay several different colours?

DigiGrade is a digital colour grading program. It enables you to manipulate just about everything to do with the image itself. This can be used to correct lighting problems (for example, if you have two shots in the same scene that don't quite match up properly, perhaps because of clouds or a different camera setup), or to make stylistic choices.

The most prominent use of digital grading in cinema at the moment is with the Lord of the Rings films. If you look at the Shire, it is all really luscious greens. Rivendell is calm, warm, autumnal. Moria is dark and grey and dead. Lothlorien has a kind of ethereal glow.

This was not achieved just with on-set lighting or camera filters. It was all done in post-production using a computer. DigiGrade will enable you to do all of this really easily. You will finally be able to get rid of that 'home movie' look that camcorders always seem to have.

And, yes, in Chromanator you will be able to select multiple colours for keying, as well as perform various other tweaks to improve the compositing.

Thanks for that, as it happens i saw some samples from Die Another Day... I couldn't believe it when they said they shot the cuban scenes during a rainy, cold day eek

So i take it professional films use DigiGrade packages...
and finaly a programme to erase that horrible home video look.
I can't wait... I'll prob get AlamDV3 + DigiGrade biggrin

Thanks
