So, I am sorry guys if I bother you as I think you're busy enough and most probably have already come up with something. But I was just thinking about a votingsystem and came up with something...

First I think the idea with the personal Top10 is not too good, because only few people actually change their Top10 when they see a new film. I think votes should be better, so my proposition are weighted votes.

There should be a "voting strength" that is calculated through different aspects wich could be gold user or not, superuser or not, number of posts, number of submitted plugins, number of force points, number or/and quality (from other voters) of submitted films (Wich I personally think should be important), length of beeing an AlamDV Member or whatever you can think of.

So as an example, if UserA who has no force, posted 3 times and has never submitted a movie votes lets say 1, and UserB who has lots of force, is a regular poster in AlamDV and has submitted 4 movies that where rated pretty high votes lets say 5, the avergae vote wouldn't be 3, but something like 4,5.

I think these weight-differences should be pretty big, such as that UserAs vote simply counts factor 1 and UserBs vote counts factor 4 or Factor 5 or whatever.

In Addition to that I would set a minimum of voters before a film is actually rated. So if lets a films rating will not count before he has at least 5 or even 10 votes or so. And after that the final rating appears and the film qualifies for the rating system. That would work against new films never even appear in the Top10 or pop at Place 1 just because the creator has voted 5 on his own movie (wich is something that should be disabled as well in my opinion - the ability to vote on ones own movie I mean).

And there should be popups or so less than the Top10 wich should show random films or films that do not have enough votes to qualify yet so that all films have its chance to be seen and not just the ones in the Top10 over and over.

And as a last addition I think the voting should be divided into cathegories like Overall, Story, Editing, Sfx.

So, that was a long post now. For all who are still awake, what do you think? smile

I've read it once but my head at this hour can't make sense of it.

(really though it sounds excellent)

A scale to work out the overall score. Wow. Now thats a complex voting system. biggrin

ada is my best friend. so is Schwar.

lol! wink

Good ideas Sollthar. I know Malone has been working on the voting system a lot, and has come up with excellent stuff. But I'll make sure he sees your ideas. Certainly makes sense, and would make dodgy votes less of a problem, as they wouldn't carry much weight.

I agree.. smile Although I'm a newbie so my votes wouldn't count much even if I think I'm serious.. but maybe you should be able to vote again later to change your previous vote.. somehow..

The system is actually not my idea. It's the way the IMDB system works. They weight their votes (allthough I don't know how).

I think allthough it really is a little unfair for new people cause their votes wouldn't weight to much, it is a pretty efficient system against vote rigging (wich we still have a lot, I hardly see a film that hasn't some votes that feel pretty dodgy)

What I think could be good as well is, that one HAS to write a review in order to vote. That way the moviemakers would get more of what most moviemakers want: Reviews on how to improve their work.

I stated a post once with the same thing about giving comments if you vote, seems too easy to vote and run

Having the write a review if you want to vote is a nice idea, but take a look at how many people vote compared to how many people watch a movie. If they also had to write a review, then there would be even less participation.
