Trailer for the 4th Episode in my "Call it a Stargate" series.

Much more happens in the full film, and I thought I would hold some back ?

A note before I comment: I LOVE YOU! Your one of the few people on this site who allow more than a 10k download. I'm crusing at 90k's now, yay! I'll post back when it's done. biggrin

[25 Seconds later]

Alright, let me watch it through again and comment as we go.

1) Is that your Dolby digital logo, or is that stock footage from somewhere? [Edit - See the reference now oink )

2) Is that banner that says OPEN DAY real or CGI?

3) The part where the ground breaks away is awesome, just fantastic. Did the guy model that for you for free or is professional?

4) Volcanoe footage is very cool

5) Where he shoots the guy in the head, why not use practical blood instead of AlamDV?

6) The stargate is all CGI right? The scene where everyone backs away from it, it looks very real, like a prop.

7) Overall, looks very good. It'll be a fun movie to watch once completed. Goodluck!

Thanks i'll try to answer your questions

the finished film will be 5.1 ( not the trailer as wmv doen't support it, but i thought i would put the Home made logo that Ottypm made on it as a thankyou to him )

Banner was CGI ( made by Chris Brizon, a Pro, done Free )
the ground was again done by him FREE
volcano was taken from a documenty cry ( but there is a cgi volcano in the full version aswell)
the stargate is CGI ( done again by Chris Brizon )

thanks for your comments

Hey b4, very cool Trailer. I liked it, made me want to see more... (and not only because I loved that I was in it) biggrin

Only letdown was the variyng quality of the FX shots, but I guess most will still change to the final film. So get it done and let us see it... razz

Yeah he was
the JOINT Chief of Staff ( the joke is in the name )

I get all the best actors biggrin ( big thankyou to sollthar )

the volcano smoke came from a discovery channel program called " Lava Hunters " I have a Sony DHR100 ( dv recorder ) and I recorded it onto dv tape ( had a problem with the dicovery logo at the top, but got rid of it in after effects by stretching the picture )

Looking good, love the idea of a stargate open day, I can imagine the jumble sale stalls, tables full of home made cakes, 17 and a half dead people (well all the open days i goto have all that).

The best bit has to be the guy falling over at the start, classic bit of comedy, and that dolby logo...all I can say is WOW wink biggrin

Not much to say other than in no way did that make me interested in seeing the final film...well, actually, i'll watch it for sollthar, he seems funny cuz he's crazy wink

Nothing pointing to the direction of where the story would lead...the world exploding? Huh? That part looked pretty bad, but the ground and the profile of the stargate were really nice.

If we're not going to be vieweing it in dolby...what's the point of adding it there?

I give it a 2...that's my 3 for a trailer.

I've enjoyed every StarGate film you made so far and it looks like I won't be disappointed with this one. Sollthar's part was a surprise and a riot. I won't comment on the effects since the film is not ready (that would be jumping the gun) Look very forward to seeing the finished project.

Hey b4,

I really enjoyed this teaser. I really dig the humor you throw in!

Joint Chief of staff - hilarious! Played by Sollthar - Even Funnier!

I love the idea of a Stargate Open Day, what a perfect recipe for disaster!!! twisted

Nice touch at the end with the tabloid.

Nice effects with ground breaking open and people flying through! Sollthar's joint...

But you got to do something about your sound! Some effects are less convincing, your muzzle flashes in particular seem a bit funny to me. I didn't like the planet explosion.

You stole (without your knowledge, of course!) an idea of mine I planned to use in Power Corps with the bullet that stops in front of the face... I shall take that as a challenge and outdo your effect in originality! biggrin

A 4 for the cheer madness of the whole idea and the humor and for some amazing effects! I can't wait or the full thing! wink

b4,

I forgot another thing. You have a quick shot of the Stargate in front of a background that seems like a still image. It makes the whole shot look flat. Maybe if you added a bit of noise?

Just an idea. smile

Pretty cool efx, and like Sollthar said, they should look much better in the finished film when you get everything matching.

Also, you CAN do 5.1 with Windows Media player 9. I've done a couple of test files and it works great.

sorry what i mean about window media is

i used studio 7 to make the wmv file ( and i will be using vegas for the 5.1 ) so studio 7 won't give me 5.1 on wmv.

once again thanks for your input, always welcome

I made those people fly by using poser and tried to match the same clothes that the real people was wearing.
then animated them ( with a tiny bit of motion blur, done in poser )

Uhhhhh . . . I didn't like it that much.

All the effects look pretty dull other than the scenes where the ground goes crazy and falls apart. The weirdest part where the guy shoots the gun and you see this huge bullet hit some dude was . . . well . . . BAD. And I don't think there is any room for improvement either for many of the scenes either unless you get a new 3D program.

And that tabloid picture at the end looks like it was made in paint.

I only gave it a 3 because I was too lazy to change the rating from what the default was.

BUT! The two-headed sollthar bit was done nicely by whoever made it.

Thanks mecha, was waiting for you HELPFUL comments.

I will be changing a lot of the fx's, ( Remember there is a story in there and I'll say this now because i've been put in this bracket of film maker and CGI man, well

I'M CRAP AT FX's NEVER EVER SAID I WAS GOOD AT THEM

but I think my story telling is good.

There cleared the air now,

can't wait to see your new film ( hope the votes are on a high number ) i'm sure a few people might just copy you and click the default 1 vote wink

A bit harsh comment's there MechaForce, at least give some kind of insight to why you are seeming to slag off the trailer.

A big bullet - does not cut it for me as a reason tard

B4UASK has some time to edit and adjust his baby. I beleave he can come up with a better film than someone else here, they could if they really tried and that's the point most people do try - but with how much love goes into their project's?

As has been discussed ad infinitum recently, when posting work to a public forum one has to be prepared for the positive and the negative comments.

I would agree with mechaforce that the execution shot needs to be reworked. It stood out from the rest of the effects as being noticeably less accomplished. Presumably that is a moment in the film that should resonate on some kind of emotional level - a character being shot in the head in cold blood (or so it seems!) - and it would be a shame for unconvincing effects to spoil the moment. A little bit of work on the compositing and bullet animation should fix it up nicely.

Looks like a lot of ambition has gone into this film. I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out on screen - judging by the trailer, this one's going to be a bit of an epic!

Could I just add something before this gets ugly.

the main reason I want ( and I think everyone wants ) helpful comments is because I have asked my friends on this site that are good with 3D to help ( I'm proud to ask for help )
So the planet blowing up, billy3D is trying to do one for me now.

Sollthar done his own fx.

The bullet time effect I will ask around for help, maybe ottypm with his excellent skills can help on that.

My point is Steven Spielberg does not do his own fx's, so if you know that a person is not great with CGI you can still be helpful

First off, the stargate looks really amazing. That bit where it's spinning really came off well. The ground thing is awesome! It makes me want to try to pull off that effect. Really cool.

All in all I only saw two things that I think you can improve on. For that gunshot, I'd recommend rigging a real squib using pressurized gas. It look so much more real. And the other is the Dragon. The lighting needs some help. It didn't really match the lighting on everyone else.

Still your movies always entertain me. I'm looking forward to this full release.

Regards,
Brent

I really quite enjoyed that. Solthars bit was great "you're always so mean to me!" and the acting over all wasn't too bad. Nice effects most of the time although the bullet, dragon and planet explosion weren't too hot. It's an interesting idea and I am looking forward to seeing the whole film (Should be getting broadband soon!)

3.

Cheers,

I know Greybro has experienced this before:

When posting a movie, don't expect people to vote on what your intentions were, but rather what they see right in front of them.

A big bullet - does not cut it for me as a reason
What? How does that not cut it? The bullet needs to be smaller.

B4Uask, I really think it's time you moved on to a more versatile 3d program. May I recommend 3d max?

Also, you really need to do some color correcting.

can i ask do you color correct as you add the fx, or at the end and do the whole film.

I have left color correction and was going to try to match it all when done.

3dsmax ? i'd love to.... cry but it's took me a year to learn poser cry

That was nicely excecuted. I never even thought, "That was Poser" so that came off completely convincing.

I'll tell ya one thing, i'd love to see a full tutorial on the ground effect cause that absolutely rocked my world!

B4, add in the color alterations to the final product, after everything has been added in. Also, it might have taken you a year to learn poser, but I think you'll find that 3d max is much easier to learn, especially since it comes with a whole bunch of tutorials that deal with specific parts of the program. The thing about 3d max is that you don't need to know the whole program before using it. You can just learn what you need for each specific shot.

I've just watched the clip.......gasp!...This has taken me by surprise....it is BRILLIANT.....I truly was'nt expecting it to be this damn good.....The completed version is gonna be a knockout. The lads are getting more into their roles and the humour is back with a vengence......cgi stuff bloody 'ell what can u say......GREAT!.
Sound has greatly improved on previous versions ....actually everything has improved.
You can see that a load of effort is being put in this production, and I think "B4's"idea of sharing his "baby"with the experts ,in their fields, from our membership not only shows the outstanding skills available but also the unselfishness and honesty of the director in being prepared to ask for advice and help in his ambition to get perfection.
BTW "solly"don't expect to get any kind words from me just cos u were great.......MY name is gonna be in bigga letters than yours in the credits....so there......LOL
I have only one problem with this clip.......I WAS'NT IN IT!.......hehe

I liked it, it made me want to see the full film.
I agree with mecha that the bullet needs to be smaller, and maybe one other thing im not sure if you could do it or not, the part where daniel i think it is, was hanging over the edge with the lava at the bottom maybe you could make that move or something a little it looked a little too stationry if you know what i mean, but other then that i liked what i saw, looks as if there will be a deeper story, and is not just an FX movie which is good, i liked the poser parts at the end when the people flew into the stargate, very nice B4
