Alamdv: NOT a 3d application.
Do you think that too many newbies are starting to treat alamdv as a sub for a 3d app?

This is an expansion on Magic's comment:

like isn't making an animated plug like this (*Insert 3d Character Here*) just the rendered vid of a 3d animation put into ALAM with loss of quality?
He is right. Alam does seem to be turning into a cheap substitution for a 3d application. Only by people that don't fully understand how the program works. So, in attempt to explain; AlamDV simply takes 2d (flat) images and allows you to skew them, expand them, and flip them on a 2d plane. Since the images have no depth, they are not 3d. A 3d plug-in like people repeatedly ask for would be a 3d scene rendered out to an image stream. Thus, making it into a series of 2d images.
There are actually alot of 3d apps that are very cheap or free out there that are very powerful if you take the time to learn to use them. Here are some:
http://www.pcplus.co.uk/article.asp?id=8556- Truespace 1.0. A good 3d modeler to make your own 3d objects for 3D Rad. It is FREEWARE!!
http://www.anim8or.com- ANIM8OR, a freeware 3d modeler to make your own 3d objects for 3D Rad
www.amabilis.com(http://www.amabilis.com) - 3D Canvas, a nice freeware 3d modeler. Only version 3.32 directly exports to .x file format. You can get it HERE (search for 3dcanvas).
http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/download.html -Another good 3d modeler named Milkshape. It's not free, but it is definitely CHEAP!
http://www.geocities.com/hamapatch/program/index.html - Freeware spline-based 3d modeling program. Nice!
There are also quite a few places where you can download 3ds or other format models.
http://www.3dcafe.com -Tons of 3D models, sounds, images and more models, sounds, images and more
http://www.modmed.com - Free 3D models, textures and images
http://avalon.viewpoint.com-3D models public library. Great!
http://www.3dbuzz.com- Tons of great models and tutorials
http://www.3dgamers.com/3daction/team47goman/-Go there and take the 3ds.zip file if you want textured and animated mech models!
http://www.europa.com/~keithr/crossroads/ - Freeware utility to convert 3D models between formats (example: so that if you have say... 3d canvas then you can convert 3ds files to dxf. files so that you can use them in 3d canvas.)
So for all the naysayers out there: AlamDV is not a sub for a 3d application
! It's meant mostly for muzzle flashes, explosions, and things that really aren't specific to a certain scene. If someone were to make a 3d plug-in for you, it would only work from one angle, and it would mostly likely only get use out of the person who requested it. Not to mention it would consume a massive amount of time for the creator.

Yeah, some of the requests are getting a bit out of this world these days. It's mainly due to proverbial "noob's" who don't understand what the program can and can't do. It's a problem we will unfortunatly have to deal with forever. And I noticed you took links from my post, cool! Good to see it's helping somone.

Am I a "noob" because i asked for a boba/Jango plug in?
If I am, I am very sorry and WHY DIDNT SOMEBODY TELL ME!
um... i know it would be hard to make 1... i dont really understand what u mean about alamdv not being a 3d application.
Do u mean u shouldnt ask people for plugins tht u arent going to use in a movie? or what?
(is a noob "newbie")
(i know i am a newbie)

ok... a 3d app is a program that has the capability to create 3d objects (ie: 3ds max) however alam does not have the ability to do this (have 3d plugins) so when someone asks for a pluggin of say a person walking a certain way it requires a 3d app to create it. So basically what you would be doing if you were making this pluggin is making a 3d animation and changing it into 2d pictures with a great loss of quality. So basically what we are saying is that alamdv is made for 2d objects that enhance the picture not 3d objects that create the picture.
hope this helps you understand.
p.s. noob is newbie and if you understand how alamdv works then i wouldnt consider you a newbie.

Franky I think alamdv is being overused... people are asking for things could be easily done in other programs, i would never use a 3d pluggin off this website because i can do it my self, in a free program and chroma it in my editor at much higher quality than you would find here simply because the file sizes would be to big for multi frame sequences. Basicly all I use alamdv and what for is the animating of 2d images and some compositioning.

Another craptacular thing about 3d plugins is that they are no good for anyone but ther person who wanted them.
Look at the main community page. It shows Sollthars new plug-ins
if you notice, they are SCENE ENHANCERS
explosions and crap like that. No 3d men running in circles or naked barbarian women running around a fake campfire.
Those (Sollthar's new Plug-ins) are the kind of plug-ins that ALAMDV is good for.

could i just add ?
I used to be Pro 3D effects on Alamdv when I was new here and I thought I was helping Alamdv attract new customers, then I saw people using some of those plugins, eg: the Wings, and black birds etc.
But times have changed and there is cheap or free software out there and and a few people have pointed out to me, it's time for me to move onto different software.
This is a place for a few selected 3D plugins, but as for the naked women, helicopters from every angle and warewolfs these should be done elsewhere.

I have to say that I agree. AlamDV is NOT a 3D application. I've done a couple of "fun" plugins, like the Alien and Yoda etc, but hey use them if you want or don't. Work your scenes out around what is available or don't use them.
I've made a lot of 3D craft plugins - they are a little different and have a bit more use. Again it's hard to decide what angles to shoot them on because I don't know what people want ... otherwise look at the angles and film accordingly. Or just don't use them.
BUT make requests realistic. I agree ... asking for requests of a 3 foot high, grey haired monkey, twirling their thumbs and picking their noses, ohh and have it from a 30 degree angle over the left shoulder ... is just a bit too ridiculous. Buy your own 3D app and use it to create your own scene enhancers.
B4 would probably agree ... plugins from 3D are just not simply whipped out. They take time ... and we do these plugins for nothing other than pure fun.
Please be realistic ... ohh and if you don't like 3D plugins ... don;t use them, just don't whinge about them ... some people have done great things with them.
