FXHome.com Feature Requests

Even tho the site is live that doesnt mean its the end of the development. I regard this as stage one and theres many many things I want to add to it. Heres a few to get started;Ratings System
- The forum rating system will return with a new makeover. The overcomplicated token system will be removed and replaced with a scheme that will allow all gold members to rate posts.User Tutorials
- It has been requested many times that an area is created where members can submit their own tutorials to help other peopleMemberlist
- Currently the memberlist has gone back to being the standard phpbb one. Im going to rewrite it to add all the functionality we had before and hopefully a few more tweaks here and thereMailing List
- We've been meaning to do this for aaaaaages. A fortnightly/monthly email news letter keeping you up to date with all the new plugins, movies and general goings on. Tarns spotlight sections on the news page have proved extremely popular so I imagine many people will want to take advantage of more of his offerings direct to your inbox.
If theres something else you'd like to see on FXHome.com please post it below.
It doesnt have to be a big request it can just be small feature requests like adding an extra link somewhere if you want.
I dont garentee I will implement your feature, but I am interested in your suggestions.
(All bugs posted here will be ignored/deleted, please add them to the bugs thread instead

It would be nice to see a board containing details of online film comps, that we can all contribute to. I know we can post details in filmmaking discussion but I never see any posts relating to them...just a thought.

Is there, or will there be the option to give people rate points ?
I have seen the transfer force, but I can't see the normal +1 for interesting.

before, on ALAMdv.com, you could tick a box saying, log me in automatically when i return. can this be reinstated, i like the way that you didn't have to login everytime you visited. Also, how can i gain member icons, i have lost PC user icon.

Yeah, the login thing remembers you automatically now, so there was no need for the box.
To get the windows/mac icons you just have to fill in the 'primary OS' field in your personal details. Then at the end of the day we check them all and give out the right icons
The ratings system will be back shortly. Thats what I was talking about in my first post under the Ratings System heading

Does that mean your not giving out dual icons for Mac operators and PC operators?

I noticed that there is no section in the cinema for strictly Action movies. Seems kinda odd seeing that most of the movies made using the program are action movies, nah?

The windows and mac icons are so we can quickly see which os you use most often. Unfortunatly people would join both groups even if they only had a limited knowledge of one of them. If you really think you should have both you can put 'windows and mac equally' in that box.
I will be remaking the forum ticker again shortly, ill make sure you know when its done
(it wont be in #alamdvticker tho, that channel is abandoned)
Tarn has got the mamoth task of catergorizing all the movies
Im sure he will want to add a few more categories while he is doing it. So it will probably change a bit. I imagine he will add an action category

Just wondering, why would you take it from an automatic system of just joining a usergroup, to having to read every submission and choose which icon they get? The old usergroup system was just a "yes" they get it or "no" they don't when they apply for it.

I was wondering that same thing. Seems like a lot more work.

heh, I didnt mean we sit down at the end of each day and manually go through 10,000 records
It is automated. In fact its more automated than before because we dont have to 'accept' or 'reject' requests, the script does it for us

Ah. Sounds good. I'm still finding new features to love about the new site. It's still amazing me. Great job.

Hm, I was having a look fat the categories. I was missing the "action" and especially a "trailer" cathegory, just a tip for poor old Tarn, who has to sort all these movies out...

So how do I get my little windows/mac user icon back?

Fill out your personal details. Go to Community>User Options>Personal Details. Fill out your OS of choice. Malone - wouldn't you get alot of problems since not everyone will be putting an operating system exactly how a script may read it? Does it just search for tons of keywords?

there could be a comment section for the plugins

I think this is pretty important and easily done.
I know a lot of people have suffered from the illness of "voting incorrectly". I've seen it happen three times today (well, read three posts). I suggest that you make a thing where people who really need to change their vote or voted incorrectly, ie, a 0, they request the vote to be changed. The thing is, they need to give you a proper reason for the change, or its a no-go.
Malone, any plans for implementing this?

actually. it'd be cool if you could change your votes on a movie like how you can change your personal top 10.

Post 22 of 37
No, don't do a vote change. That would end in people changing votes all the time and chaos... I^m strictly against it

I agree. For some reason I see nothing but bad things that come along with being able to change your vote.

Post 24 of 37
Like I said, it would be up to csb to decide whether to change a vote or not.
it makes perfect sense if you think about it...someone by accident voted 0 for DXM...is this fair? the person didn't want to, it was an accident. they should be able to change it.
So there, nothing bad can come of it.

This vote has already been corrected. If someone votes wrong (like acergaejoe giving DXM a 0) one should be able to tell malone and he can sort things out.
But I am totally against giving users the ability to change their votes. I have read a lot of things like "oh, I have voted 3 on this film but now I think it should be higher in the Top10 so I want to change it to a 4 or a 5 even" or "Damn, I gave this a 5 but it shouldn't be that high in the Top10. I want to change my vote into a 4 or even 3". That is bollox.
Think first, vote later.

Who says DXM deserves more than a 0!?

Sollthar, you're not understanding. I'm not saying that the user changes the vote and its automatically changed in system. The problem is that malone is always busy and its rather hard to reach him in the chat, especially for people who dont know much about the chat. Therefore, a little submit thing to ASK to change your vote with a REASON would be the perfect solution.
Say people try to abuse the system and send 1001010101010 requests...easy, malone takes away their priveleges for requesting a vote change or even harsher, get rid of ability to vote, period. I do think there are certain "users" here that do not deserve to vote, and yes, gold users too. Not "regulars", but there are instances.

in Addition, IF users should be given the ability to change their vote, it should be within a short timelimit. When you accidentally give a wrong vote, you see it within 10 minutes or so. Maybe that could be implemented.
But I see no point in changing your vote after a longer time. No point in that.

I like the idea of having 5 minutes to change your vote or what not. Seems like the best, and easiest option for both parties.

Post 31 of 37
Sounds interesting...but i wouldn't say its easier for both parties. Coding it, i would say that this would take longer as it needs to be worked out with the rating time and current time of request...the other way, its just a simple submit form to csb...in th elong run tho, it may be easier in the sense that csb wont have to worry about people rating 0's by accident...but then again, who's to say that people always double check to see if they voted properly? I don't.

I had hoped that the confirmation of votes would have stopped this problem. Im not sure how someone accidently clicks 'zero' then accidently clicks 'yes' as well, but it has happened a few times already
I do like the idea of a 10 minute grace period to change your vote tho. I think it would allow for these little accidents as well as preventing abuse of the system still.
I will have to check it out, but I think it will be fairly easy to add on to the existing scripts

For the OS icons, would it be possible to create seperate icons for Mac OS 9.x and for OS X, so we could easily and quickly see which one users were running? Might be too much of a pain, but I think it might help, considering they really are completely different systems. When the new line-up for OS X only comes out. though, it might not relly be an issue.

Change the movie votes thing so when you see the movies people voted on, have the link for the movie go to the movie info, and not the movie votes info.

Didn't i post that? hmm. odd.
but yeah, that would be very helpful malone...and its also interesting to see what non-gold users voted too (well, for me it is)

Anyway we could also see the return of the "Who's Here" list on the bottom of the forum? It's useful for when you need to contact someone who isn't always in chat, or to see if anyone is keeping an eye on the forums.
