The 4th Episode from the "Call it a Stargate" series.

Some of the jokes and story follow on from the other episodes.

(I can't give the story away it would spoil it, i think! )

( Some of the fx's are great and some are bad, ( the bad ones are mine ), anyway the film character driven not fx.

Just watched it and i enjoyed it very much smile

When Mad World started playing i thought everyone was going to be killed off, that music is so effective and that was a very nice few scenes, the effects were put to good use, i see you changed the size of the bullet aswell that got a few grumbles on here, that was a nice scene also, i think i nice way to end smile
Directing was also very good

Hi
thanks Kram
I'm not sure about the link, it's working for me at the moment, if you do have problems i could icq or msn transfer it.

Also did you notice the MIGHTY SOLLTHAR in the film, he's proved to me he is good at acting and making his own films.
oh, and DAVLIN once again plays the alien head. ( my thanks to them )

I must admit that I've never really got into your previous Stargate films. Never having seen Stargate (except for the movie) probably didn't help. smile

This one I rather enjoyed...had some nice running gags. I particularly liked the government guy who kept hassling the big guy who is in charge (sorry, don't know the character names...) - the Stargate guy's way of sneaking off and leaving Daniel to put up with the annoying guy was great. smile

Sollthar's cameo was superb! Very, very funny.

I really like the cooperative way you make your films. How many FXhome.com people have you worked with so far?

Oh, also thought I'd mention that the bullet hit to the head was vastly improved over the trailer version of the shot.

hey B4,

just finished watching the film and i must say i think this is my favourite part so far.

Like Tarn mentioned i also loved the gag of the bloke annoying hammand smile he was a great character. I also liked the inclusion of the feamle character, i thought she made Sander a more interesting character.

The shot selection is great as if the editing. Dialogue is great in parts but is a bit flat in others. The special effects were really well done and i second Tarn on the bullet shot.

How can u right this review and not mention Sollthar funny as hell cameo biggrin hilarious

Well Done the film was enjoyable. Lets hope Starship Troopers is just as great.

Oh and the worst thing about this film is that you didn't write my character back into it, i was the most important in the last razz

"Thanks for saving my life"

"Thanks. I had a feeling the planet was going to blow."

"Remeber that little alien? He killed my husband. But, I don't care because I didn't love him anyways."

Joint Chief of Staff is conjoined! Har har har har har!!

That was not that bad . . . . . . but a lot of the 3D was kinda cheesy and the friggin harp that strummed everytime someone dissapeared was really clich├ęd, because the dude just went "POP!" and dissapeared. Oh and the footage you tried to mix really didn't work because you never see people and the volcano at the same time. You prolly could've made a mountain yourself and did the smoke...It's easy to do that kind of stuff in 3DS Max anyways...

Hey b4!

I laughed so much I nearly wet my pants! You are a true comic genius. I was waiting for this with such anticipation!

Kudos to Solthar for an amazine (and hilarious!) prestation! You are truly multitalented!

Effects were uneven but it didn't bother me - although I'll say this for your moons - More transparency wouldn't hurt!

Nice angles, decent pacing overall, excellent directing with the means available to you! I though the pacing lagged towards the end with James the Alien.

What slayed me the most, after Solthar, was all the romantic stuff... Man, you had me in tears! You managed to make it both serious and funny!

A 4!

Keep'em coming!

Great work as usual, B4 - some good humour and effects in there smile The Stargate activation sequence was truly eye opening!

I think I prefer Breakdown, however. It seemed to hold together more neatly as a movie.

Openday had an interesting plot, but certain parts were rather long-drawn-out. I thoroughly enjoyed the cameos, though, esp. Marco's spirited performance and that talking lightbulb towards the end ( razz ) biggrin

Looking forward to your next film!

Yeah this group filmaking thing works out pretty well, once you know the various peoples skills you can go direct to them for help.

It might even be worth contacting people at scriptwriting stages so ideas can be brainstormed and whoever is doing an effect could request certain camera angles for the effect. I know I would have liked another angle on the bullet, for dramatic effect.

The only thing I really want to comment on is the compression, I think the .WMV loses some important detail on the effects shots, especially anything with a lot of movement, I think you would get similar file sizes using Divx with .MP3 sound but much higher quality video.

I've still only seen half of Breakdown, and the other two so long ago that I probably missed a bunch of story stuff, but I still laugh when the guy falls over.

Oh the only other thing, when they had fallen through the stargate I would of gone mad for colour correction to show they really were on another planet....

Looking forward to Starship Troopers, I'm expecting relentless carnage twisted

look Being that I am a fellow film maker. Don't take this too hard because it is my opinion and mine alone.

To be honest I think this film was crap! Why? Becuase it had too much. Too many long shots! Too many shots of seeing people talk but not hearing wut they say. Too many shots of the freakin' grass. Too many actors wasting precious seconds looking confused. But most of all the PACING was SOOOO damn slow I felt like I watched TITANIC 5 times in a row! Maybe I feel this way because I have no knowledge of what STARGATE is all about. And maybe it's because the only reason I watched THIS film in the first place was becuase YOU gave my film THE PRODIGAL JEDI a 2 star rating and I wanted to see what YOu were made of.

Either way it goes I think with a little more excitment and some faster pacing (and GOOD LORD IN HEAVEN fix your FX or don't use em! Shadows should not float all over the screen!) You could do something that is appealing to EVERYONE! Not just the ones that know everything about the Genre.

CONSTUCTIVE CRITIQUE

PEACE OUT!

MATT YOUR A PRATT.

you voted on mine film 2 days ago, ( a vote of 2 ) ( before I voted on yours ) so to say you have just watched my film because I voted on yours first is CRAP, your just angry that this film got a higher position in the topten (This only happens with films in the topten)
Your words only come out of anger,

So Please grow up and this is the sort of reason why I didn't want to put the film here, To keep the stupid people that vote funny then watch films I won't be putting any fututre films on here, I guess while on the subject ( just incase people think I'm saying this because the film got a low vote )
Remember back to when cow protector came out, I gave it 5, then i released Breakdown on here, and v6proz gave it 3, 13 weeks ago ( pushed it from the topten, but his film stayed.
then only a few days ago on this very post, he admits he's never seen any of my films.
This happens a lot when your films are 20mins + as people can't or won't bother to download a large file, so people like myself just get knocked down.
I wish you all the best in fighting for the topten wink

listen man I watched the first ten mins and nearly drooled all over myself from boredom. That's why I gave it a two it didn't keep my interest at all. It wasn't untill yesterday that I mustered up enough caffine to keep me awake for the next 20 minutes and that's when I realized I should have given your garbage a one! And don't be a baby and and say you're gonna stop posting your films. Are you hoping that people are gonna feel sad and try to tell you to stay? So that you can have a friggin confidence boost?! I told you at the beginning not to take my opinion too hard but obviously you did exactly what I said not to do. I want you to stay. Because I want to see you do something better than what I just saw. Do you think I like to see CRAP! NO I like to see CRAP get better so suck it up!

b4 - it strikes me as rather strange that after so many positive responses, one single negative comment can cause you to react so strongly.

Surely the many positive responses are worth more than a single negative comment? And Matt did offer constructive criticism, some of which was correct - some of the effects, such as the dragon's shadow, would have been better leaving out, and the pacing could have been tightened up.

Negative and positive comments all need to be taken into account if we are going to improve.

Sorry guys, ( you have a point tarn )
it's just that as you know I'll vote on a film and if it means my is knocked down then that's 100% fine with me, I'm happy for mine not to be in the topten ( although thankfull to alamdv for allowing it to be shown )
I'm not after people to say please put your films on here, the only reason i've put the last 3 films ( so it's not a new thing ) is because i've used actors and help from people on this site, so I put it on here for them.
I understand now that not everyone is honest, just once I would have liked to put a film on here where all the votes were given because people had watched the film ( and all the way through ) I've seen some not so good films on here but sat through them and even if i didn't like the film I would still be respectful and honest.

Hell even mecha watched this and gave some good comments.

I'll be happy to leave this alone if you guys are ?

Still, Matt you may want to work on your tone.

Some people are not gonna like your work, and others will, thats how it goes. I would say its gone down pretty well so far B4 and you've got to remember that false votes and bad votes are cast on all the movie - so in the end it evens out anyway.

After reading the last few exchanges, I must say that people put too much emphasis on the top ten. Hey! It's great to be there! I was thrilled when I ended up there, it is a form of recognition of your work, but it is not exactly a fair competition either. Everybody has different means, skills, etc.

As pointed out by the higher authorities, Matt comments were constructive albeit in a slighlty aggressive tone (but he's young - although it's not always an excuse - Matt, sometimes you come off as downright rude so expect fiery answers! If I was on the receiving end of some of your remarks, I'd be upset too!)

You did say it was your opinion and to not take it to harshly, but then you have a provocative attitude.

b4 movie does have pacing problems, I pointed it out and others did, although I will say this: nobody should vote on a film without watching it until the end. I commend you for having watched it all in a second sitting despite your initial reaction, but you still shouldn't have voted until fully seeing it. As you said yourself, if you would have watched it all the first time, you would have put a lower vote! And this whole argument wouldn't have happened... (See b4's initial reaction).

Just my opinion! biggrin

It'd be nice if users could try to remember the Top 10 "Best" comments on their film and the Top 10 "Worst" comments on their film , and take those to heart instead of what place their movie is in in the cinema section... Just a thought. wink

Or you could all come and live with me in happyland, where munchkins shower jellybeans on me all day, and the trees are sugar coated and the women are made of jelly, I don't know why thats a good thing though....

I should probably try posting useful comments once in a while, but I would only be repeating what other people have said, and don't worry about the top top ten, I've never been in it and my films are gold plated perfection... crazy ahem, I'll go and take my medication now......

OK OK! I am goin to have a change in my attitude from now on. I had no Idea that some of my peers in the filmaking world could be so damn sensitive. Listen B4, work on speeding up the pace. And tell the guy with glasses to cut it out with his annoying laugh next time. Ok. The film was utterly and rediculously boring to ME. ME! Look at all the Beutiful reviews you have gotten though. Don't let mine get to you like it did. I'm sorry if I was outta line. But I was jsut tryin to help you. Look forward to see if you improve next episode. But don't take my reviews (good or bad) to the anus next time. Good day Mate!

We have alot of younger and more sensitive members in this community, and we'd hate to see them get discouraged from something they like to do or from contributing to the community due to unneccesary negative comments. Not that you have to swallow what you really think, just pleasee try to make sure it comes out in less of a bad light.

You say that you are going to change you're attitude but then go on to be just as abusive! Although B4 does get a little touchy about critisism, even the least sensative around here would be rubbed the wrong way by the way you handle yourself. I think you should sit and think about what you are saying before you type it next time or soon people are gonna become more annoyed.

Instead of saying rediculously boring try saying that it is too slow paced for you or something like that. Watching paint dry or waiting for someone with nothing to do might be ridiculously boring but this obviously can't be that boring or you wouldn't watch it in the first place. Its not what you say, its the way that you say it.

Hey b4, great movie. I enjoyed the whole series that you have made.
The actors are very talented compared to most of the other amateur films.
My favorite is the guy who plays teacup. He always says indeed. It cracks me up razz.

Anyways your movies are some of the best on this site and it must of taken you guys a very long time. The only complaint I have are that some of the shots are a bit too long. for exemple when in episode 2 ( I think) they are waiting for the spaceship too land. You see them looking onwards for like 2 minutes and it kinda ruins the pace of the film. There are a few more of these. But other than that this is a great series.
Can't wait for your starship troopers. biggrin
Keep up the good work!

This is my first chance to fully read the comments on "B4's" latest episode and apart from one ill mannered member and another who thinks that's the way to express critism it made very interesting reading. The points made by almost all of you were very fair , constructive and I'm sure much appreciated by B4.

I loved this episode and its improved humour but most of all I think the use of Alam members is terrific and great fun in itself. The crew are really getting into their parts and there is a real feeling of a soap opera type of situation arising as we get to know our "heroes".

B4 is attempting to bring in more complex storylines into his work and is always trying different approaches to situations which can make his films original in their concept.

I have deliberately not got into technical areas cos I don't have a film posted and don't have the right to express my views.

Sadly though I'm saddened that "Solly" ,just cos he was great, took my starring light away........I could have bin famous....had girls chasing me all over the world.......parties galore......invites from "ottey" to join him in his "jelly" world. I thought I was truly switched on and glowing with confidence.....I was in my element as "moe" rightly points out..........does anyone have use for 5.000 davlin T- shirts?........LOL

That aside my wife and laughed and laughed at the antics of our "heroes"
this is great stuff and once again not forgetting the members who added to the fun of this movie.

Well done "B4" and gang.

we try to do thing new and keep on building our caractures and improve our acting (as that we r not )..i think B4 does a great job at writing the stories...and as we only film at weekends (full time work is a pain) and get let down by alot of people..i think we don't do too bad really..

anyway thanks too all the people that helped us on this film u all done a great job and i for one look forward to working with you all again.

PS..b nice to meet more of you in person..... biggrin

The Story:

The story is more charactor based this time around, taking a slower stride than the other Ep's and can be a bit of a come down for the people who love the fast action of before. But this slower stride is not a bad angle to come from, as it makes you look into the charactors rather than see them as part of the action and gives that insight into their lives.

The Stargate has to be put on public show after the problems in Ep.2 and the joint chef order's an open day for the public.

So the SG-1 team set the day up, but what could go wrong with an open day.

One way to find out - watch it.

The sound:

WoooHoooo! 5.1 Surrond sound, but not on the download version, as it is not supported frown but that's the internet for you and limited on size of file. Must be a 1st for 5.1 sound on a film here me think's - I could be wrong.

The sound is not as clear as it could be, the voice's of some of the actor's a slightly to quiet at some point's and might benefit from a boom.

The sound effect's have been used to full advantage once again and makes a real impact on the final cut.

The Camera Work/Editing

The camera work has been used more with the charactors in mind and is nice to see some emotion in a SG Ep. It goes to show that you can do charactor basied filming and still have a great film.

The Editing was great, focused on the charactor's and all the action. Liked the idea of putting the volcano footage together to make the scene fill more real and the SFX! Might be few, but they have the impact that they need, some have also been re-worked to over come a couple of problem's from the trailer version and work a lot better I must admit.

The joint staff, what an idea, what a great scene, what a great performance and it goes together so well.

The Pointer's:

Sound issue - Boom

End Score:

5

It can not be said- that it does not deserve it, very enjoyable to watch.

Maybe because I was not in it frown

this is pretty long. In fact I think it's safe to call this a film of epic proportions, one of those LORD of the RINGS type style of works. A huge adventure in a distant land. Beutiful!
