The forum rating system is now back online! This much anticipated new version is similar to the one we used on the old website but has been written entirely from scratch.

The old system never worked as well as we had hoped and this brand new version has been designed to fix the flaws and streamline the design. There are a few differences you should note before you get going:

No more tokens

The old token system was overly complex and resulted in much confusion as to how tokens were acquired. The new system has been simplified, enabling all Gold Users to rate as many posts as they like (although we may restrict it to a certain amount per week at a later date).

Clearer purpose

The old system instead seemed to promote itself as a way of rewarding another member. We found posts being rated just to give the poster some force, even though the actual post contained nothing of interest.

The new system is designed to function specifically as a way of recommending useful posts to other members. The goal of the system is to flag good posts so that other people can find and enjoy them.

Force awards no longer automatic

Because all Gold Users can now rate posts all the time we expect there to be a lot of ratings added to the system. If we handed out Force for all these ratings it would quickly become a bit silly. So instead we will tally up the ratings at the end of each week and give out Force to the best overall posters.

Please be sure to read the ratings FAQ before you start rating any posts.

You said it would show people the useful posts. Will you have to open the post to see if its got a good rating, or will there be something beside it in the hot news column?

Im gonna to add a new page with the best posts of the last 7 days in (and probably something showing the best posters too). I also want to add the 'overall post ratings for each topic' back on the forum pages, maybe with more of a highlight for good topics.

W00T! razz I think this system is much much better. Posts are, as you mentioned, finally being rated on helpfulness and quality instead of likeability of the poster. Great things I see this system will bring on [/yoda]. razz Any good word on force amounts / distrubution?

What if someones post has been given a -1 rating and I think that is totally bogas and it didn't need to be rated -1, So I give it a +1 to even it out. Should we do that?

If someone see's a -1 that they dont think the person deserves, PM me or one of the other mods and they can take a look at it. We can removie it if need-be, but don't just give it +1 to even it out yourself. smile

Yeah, Id prefer it if everyone just rated posts if they truly reccomend them, not just cos they think the current rating is wrong.

Negative ratings wont have any effect on force being given out, so dont worry about losing force because of them.

by the way when are do the force things get dealt out like into our force and stuff...? just wondering. i thought i had a lot of force comming my way when i looked on wednesday (16) in like one day but then i look at mechaforce and stuff with like 400 im like... ok... i give up. biggrin

Yeah, somehow I was fortunate enough to earn the almighty 'mod status' razz As of right now there is no real way to identify who the mods are, maybe an Icon or something is due in the works. The other mods that I know of off the top of my head are Averagejoe (Head mod! w00t!), Axeman, av11d, fallen, craig, and I think even Codec3. cool

i knew it! you are all mods! well, um.. marek, i think most of the force all those other guys have are from old ratings because they added those onto the new force rating thingy... here. let me dechipher my messy grammer. Malone took the new ratings and added them to the old ratings from the previous systm. i think. so when you are looking at the memberlist sorted by ratings, they count the old rating too.

Malone does like cake though!

Yeah don't get disheartened because people like Mecha have been around for quite a while and have made a ton movies and plugins and earnt a lot of force that way.

You have to become a pillar of the community, help people, post interesting stuff, visit the chatrooms, show that you are responsible. Once you have been doing that for several months and if you are very lucky you might join the waiting list. razz

There was discussion of it in the chatroom, but i think that they're should be a mod icon/badge that would appear under ur name, like the others <-- That way, people will know who and who isn't a mod...

I am sure flip and the guys get fed up with people asking smile
