This is a teaser for ( OUR ) I say our as so many fxhome people are helping Starship Troopers film.

This is more of a test to see if I could make a bug walk over a bush.

( it's not perfect, But I will learn from it )
p.s.
the colors on the titles are taken from the 3D version i'm doing at the same time

I liked the way the way the bushes moves when the bug walks through them.

With a little effort on maknig the leg movements look right, in sync with the movement, I think it have the potiential to look great.

And yes, it works for me. smile

Hm, me and Tim both had problems with the link, although malone was fine. Odd.

Having now watched it, it looks rather good! I'm a huge fan of the movie, so it should be good fun to see this version. smile

Glad you decided to share the teaser after all, B4 biggrin Looks good! Like Marsupilami, I dig the way the bushes interact with the 3D bug - looks convincing!

Looking forward to the full release smile

pretty cool. one thing though. When you see those bugs in his reflection its leg goes of the glasses and onto his leg. Its quick. So how long did it take you to do that animation? its cool.

spy kids 3 at the cinema and i think mc donalds are giving away 3D glasses.

On the full film the whole film is 3D (films like spy kids 3D or jaws 3D may have a few scenes) mine is ever single frame smile

I jiffied the link an got it to work . . . .

I'm sure it's much to late for this, but you should've done 3D with the polarized / nonpolarized style so you could keep the colors clean. Er, actually I think you need a special screen for that. Actually, I don't know, but it's something along those lines. Anyway, that would be cool.

Why is it called Smoothnecks? No offence, but I don't like that name at all. Maybe I'll change my mind once I know what it means.

I presume it is called 'Smoothnecks' because the troop in the film are called 'Roughnecks', as in 'Raczek's Roughnecks!" (it works best if you shout it). I personally think it's a very funny take on the name.

As for doing it using polarised glasses, I don't think you can do that without specialist equipment and, more importantly, specialised glasses. You can pick up alternate colour 3D glasses for about 10p - in fact, most people tend to have a pair lying around somewhere.

I think you right, the other way to make 3D is beyond me frown

Fear not, there will be 2 versions, so the colors will be fine on the normal version.

Spot on tarn, ( in my story, Smoothnecks, was the first USA rocket that went missing back in the 50's and when the army set up a team to kill the bugs, the drill sergeant chooses that name for his team as a sign of repect. ) more to it than that, a few twists in there.

Something else that should be new is the drill sergeant will have a robotic arm, ( covering his arm in green ) then matching it with a terminator style arm.

the cheapest glasses i've found are 40p each in bulk, if you know cheaper i'd love to know.

In fact I'm just making a tut on how to make 3D glasses.

You'll need to have a printer, scissors, cardboard and OHP paper (over head projecter paper - basically see through plastic used for over head projecters that you can print on). Oh, and sticky tape or glue.

i tell ya, b4uask this is gonna be a big deal within, the whole amature film making industry. I mean i havent seen this been done before, and im sure there will be a big enough market for it, its like the IMAX just now its AMAX, you could have a whole different section, where the plugins came at ya, its a shame though its got the red and blue look, which is dated to the clear ones now, but hey rome wasnt built in a day,

will u ever let on how its done? for others to try there hand at 3d experiments, ahh i can see it now, could have some real nice movie techinques....

Im gonna see if i can find some glasses for the trailer

Well, I "borrowed" a pair of spy kids 3d glasses from my work and tried it out...you need to work on your compositing with the colors as it's not seamless and only bits look 3d. for example, the opening thing does not look ver 3D, but the last title does when it breaks.

also, this may be due to compression as the compression is pretty poor. For the 3D version, worry about high res.

Thanks guys
The superteam logo was the first thing i tried out, ( using a plugin on after effects to make it 3D ) ( proberly redo, now Cypher has commented on it.)
Since then I've been getting better, i've even gone the other way in some cases in the film eg:
the rocket Smoothneck is flying in space but i have made the background ( stars and sun ) go back into the computer screen, really wierd effect but I think it works.
