Well, after thinking of countless ideas, i think I've finally decided on one. I realize I've never posted a film on this site, so none of you know how much (or lack of) skill I have... but here goes:
Synopsis: There's this generic city (could be any where) and people scuttle around through thier daily lives not questioning anything. (Much like real life) The city is run by a select few who live beneeth the city and control certain things to maintain a balance. Obviously, no one knows about them, but someone finds out and wants to educate the people of the city. They have to stop this person or the balance of power will calapse. The plot will then be the race to stop this guy before he ruins everything. I really want to make this film a study of why there is difference, and why certain people "march to a different beat". I want it to be about wheather or not people shoud be revealed the secrets of thier surroundings, and a few other concepts.
Anyway, if I do it, it will be the most advanced thing I've ever done. I'll hopefully assemble a proper cast and budget. I was just asking if any of you guys think it's a good concept or if it's worth doing....................?

Yeah, You could call it "The Matrix"!

Oh, wait...That has already been done.

Personally, I'd say it's an overdone, kind of generic idea. It sounds almost like an Austin Powers movie.

For your first advanced project, I'd recomend you do a different plot.

Sounds like a cool idea. The only trick will be putting your spin on the subject matter. You need some type of twist. You also may want to consider looking at some movies that cover this type of thing. If you've seen these disregaurd my suggestion.

Dark City and City of Lost Children (I personally thought this one was brilliant)

There are quite a few stories that touch on this motif (like the MAtrix). I was going to name more but me brain isn't cooperating right now redface

This may be a little deeper than you want to go but ... At the library or online, check out some of the "Gnostic" Gospels. These are the writings ofa fringe sect of Christianity that taught reality is an illusion created by a jealous higher being to keep we humans from the true knowledge of what is. Maybe this will help with the philosphic part of your idea.

Hmm... sounds pretty advanced for a (first time?) filmmaker. Sure it's not too much to handle? I'd think you need a multi-million budget to pull that off. But hey, if it works for you then great.

Personally I'd say you should go for a drama (or perhaps comedy?) so that you can actually pull it off with little to no budget.

Yep, Dark City immediately sprang to mind for me...this is about evil people living beneath a city controlling everyone...

This isn't an original idea anymore so I'd try & think of something else, unless you can offer a different spin on the genre.

If you are going to do that idea you should turn the tables on it. The peope controlling the city are the good guys protecting the citizens from some horrible reality, the lone warrior is the bad guy, when he destroys the controllers all hell breaks loose.

The important thing is to tell the story from the perspective of the bad guy, fool the audience into thinking he is doing the right thing, until the end when you realise he has buggered it up.

Thats sounds like a movie i would like to see. A little like the matrix but still. I like ^^^^^ this idea (otteypm). To add a little to his: i think there should be some apocoliptic event that was predicted YEARS ago which is when this "underground order" came to be. So basically they are protecting the people of this city from the horrible truth. And i also think it is a good idea to get it from the "bad guys" perspective untill the end when we realize that he has just flung everyone into the painful abyss (or however you spell it) of the reality of what will happen to them.

anyway, good luck with it! biggrin

Or you could look at the writings of ex-football/soccer goalkeeper David Icke, who believes

a) he is the son of God
b) the world is ruled by lizards (e.g. George Bush is a lizard) oink

he also says (& this appears to be his sanest comment) that all the people who have ever been rulers (e.g. Queen Elizabeth I, Genghis Khan, Tony Blair as crap examples) are related to each other, because there is a sort of bloodline of rulers, so being a ruler is genetic.

He also goes on about a covert international group called the Illuminati but I have no idea what he's on about there... razz

Just thought that some of that might provide some ideas for you biggrin

You're a lizard who's envious of Marek trying to take over the world. I have proof. Look at that green bit coming out of your avatar's nose, it's the lizard trying to escape... wink

Try thinking up a better plot. Like everyone has said, that sounds exactly like Dark City/The Matrix/Etc/until the end of time. Maybe by "better plot" I actually mean, "more original plot". How about, A small French city in WW2 has been overtaken by Nazis, and there is a secret tunnel that the locals have dug unbeknownst to the Nazis, and they're working their way out of town secretly, but along the way, they discover another series of tunnels that they didn't know about, and they send a scout down to find out where it goes and he finds a secret Nazi base that has perfected cryogenic freezing, and using their freezing methods, they can bring people back to life after freezing. The scout gets shot so the locals from the city decide it's not worth it to go down there again, and 60 years later, in 2003, the British government gets word that the Russkies didn't actually get Hitler's body, but it was stashed somewhere in France. So a troup of elite soldiers are sent out to find it, and they come across the cryogenic freezing chambers, and plans to revive the people inside sometime shortly after the turn of the century, which is NOW! The government flips out because they found Hitler and Himmler along with countless other Nazi legions frozen and awaiting a code that a Nazi soldier was given on the day the war ended and told to keep secret until his dying day, and that code, entered into a keypad in Belgium will wake them all up again, thinking that the war is still going on. The British troops can't remove the bodies from their freezing chambers due to bulletproof containers, and the containers can't be removed because they're built into the rock. So, on that fateful day in 2003 when the dying Nazi soldier, on his deathbed in a Belgian hospital types in the code on a keypad to release the frozen martyrs from their icy sleep, the world will not be ready for them.

Or will they? Luckily, Superman was notified... I took it too far. But you get the point. Do something original. I thought all that up on the spot, and when have YOU seen a movie like that before? I thought not.

Aculag that was actually a plot for Superman...you know that gay Lois and Clark show...with Dean Kain as Superman...the Nazis froze some perfect people during WWII. Then in the early 90's they awoke and started taking over mainstream pop culture and 5 years later they were the most popular people in the world...they then released who they were over live television...they were all holding babies and had kids behind them...then the Nazi flag appeared waving in the background...It was actually rather well put together....Enjoyable to say the least...

Then it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to come up with a new plot for anything. I was just pulling that whole thing out of my ass. Right then.

Ok, just as long as you do something a little different with the same story, it goes. Since there is no such thing as an original idea anymore. Unless....

You make a movie about genetically engineered lab frogs that are super smart, and they grow suction cups on their feet and are able to walk on any surface, so the lab technicians decide to put a tracking collar on one of them, and send it out into the world on it's own. After a touching scene where the frog hugs his lab friends goodbye, grabs his bag and takes off, the frog walks out the door, and into the world. Three weeks later, the lab technicians have been tracking the frogs progress, and it has made it's way to a small island in the south pacific. They figure it found a home and decided to stay put, but then they get a call from the British Government telling them that they've found a tracking collar with their information on it. The scientists get worried, and they ask the government to launch a search for their missing frog with suction cups for feet. So the government sends out a troop of elite soldiers to find the frog, and what they find is a secret base run by Nazis, and the Nazis found the missing frog and are doing experiments on it, and they've figured out enough from it that they were able to (within a few short weeks) develop and engineer a superhuman who is able to walk on any surface, climb walls and ceilings and is incredibly smart. Is the world safe? Luckily, Superman is on call... I took it too far again, didn't I?

Well, THAT definitely hasn't ever been a movie. And if it has, I vow to come up with a completely original, albeit ludicrous movie plot by the end of the day. Thank you.

It's not my first time to make a film, I said it would be the most advanced film I've ever done. I don't think I specified it correctly, but I did mean for the underground people to be the good guys, I thought that gave it an original spin. Anyways, thanks for your comments. I really think that if I tell it in a different way that it could be refreshing. And Aculag, it is impossible to come up with a totally original idea. Or a least, damned near impossible. God knows how long people have been thinking up stories. I'm not saying my work is completly justified, I'm just saying that I think this concept has an original spin on it.

Read the story "Repent, Harlequin, Said The TickTockMan" by Harlan Ellison. I've wanted to make this into a movie for a long time.

Keep in mind, people that making a movie based on a story is not original. But I haven't read the story, so I dunno.

Hello, I love your idea, and i think it would do you a lot of good, since you have obvisouly taken a lot of time on this. I know its very hard to be original. The spin is great. I love it and I would love to see it. IF you ever publish it. Also i don't think you are coping the matrix.
